White spots I experience white spots on a lot of my pictures taken with my fz5. Is it a problem or is it normal with digital camera ? Does anyone have the same problem ? What do you advise ? here is a link with exemples. Just bellow an other smaller crop of the same right up corner with 4 white spots : one with a long vertical square shape. 3) Crop with legs : a more or less wide withe spot on each leg. 4) Crop with a square grey in the middle of water : square water is it possible ? 5) the light reflected on an aluminium label is not a white star but is converted into a white spot. 6) the light reflected by rearview mirrors are also converted into white spots, spread by the blur. I hope my english is not too bad, and clear enough to enable you to give me answers on these points. What do you think ?

Hello Sir or Madam, My wife has recently taken pictures and most of her pictures have white spots in them, does this mean that my digital camera is defective?

Do the spots only occur when taking flash pictures and do the spots look like "soap bubbles" and appear in different places in each picture? If so, these are dust particles reflecting the flash back into the lens. It's a problem with all point and shoot cameras because the flash is so close to the lens.

The lens has suffered impact and the shutter or aperature blades have been damaged and are jamming. The camera needs repair / replacement parts.

If the pictures look normal while taking them, but become white after they have been taken and if they have horizontal stripes on them (zoom in the pictures to check it) then it's a broken shutter cable or stuck shutter blades. If they appear white before the picture has been taken, then it's a CCD problem. They are hardware problems, not software, so I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair. You should contact your local Canon service center. I must warn you that all these problems are considered hard to repair, so it could get expensive.

LCD screen and pictures go completly white

The camera is defective. But as you've only had the camera three months it still is under warranty. Canon is usually very responsive to these type of problems and will bend over backwards to make things right (probably the most responsive of the camera companies).

Call 1-800-OK-CANON to resolve this issue.

White spots on photos

No setting can cause white spots on the picture, this is a fault.

By the way you can reset settings on this camera to initial state by simply removing and putting back camera batteries.
Alternatively you should have a reset command on camera settings menu.

My opinion is that this is a fault and not a settings problem.

Typically there are three kind of faults that can cause this problem:

1 - Dirty lens or water inside the lens:
The lens may be dirty inside, for example because of water condensation on internal surfaces, this will cause blurred dots or black dots. The lens must be taken apart and cleaned in this case.

2 - Defective CCD sensor.
The CCD sensor is the chip that detects the picture, if you get well defined white or colored spots on picture that is probably a defective CCD. I think this is the more likely in your case. To fix this the sensor must be replaced.

3 - Defective video chip on internal board.
This can cause any kind of problems, however it is quite unlikely.
It is an expensive repair.

If the photo shoot out show white , the obscure (quality variation), and even horizontal line ( white lines), and so on over-exposure cases, even if the use of anti-tremor, set to default values are invalid, because the camera shutter fault.

It's need repair camera machine shutter.

White Screen

Upon startup lens emerges but when screen appears it is white whereas it normally displays whatever the lens sees. When the shutter button is pressed the camera will focus and take a white picture which can be deleted. The camera does not flash although flash is set to automatic and photo taken in a dark room. Camera flashes (weakly) with flash set to manual on. Lens is unobstructed and appears to be perfectly normal. Camera was not dropped. Batteries have been changed.

In addition, flash lighting dust doesn't make a white spot, but a fuzzy whitish circle (out of focus). The image underneath is still visible, but distorted. These are definitely not flash reflecting on dust.

In which case I am puzzled as to what they are if they are not supposed to be there. I have read of problems with flash lighting up dust particles in the air, but these are not flash photos.

These spots are not pixel size. They must be objects which were there.

Do some test shots - are they always in the same place? deliberately underexpose. If so, they are probably so called "hot pixels" which is another way of saying defective - return it.
