SOURCE: oil ratio

you can use a 40:1 mix if it smokes then cut it back to 32:1 but a little more oil is better than not enough so start with the 40:1

SOURCE: Wont coil back into its housing, so trimmer wont start. Has compression though

Hi, this a cut&paste from elswhere but it applies to your problem:
how to repair a recoil spring: whats missing is this, you should always wgear eye protection when dealing with springs of any kind.
remember safty first. :)

Remove the recoil shroud and take a look at the assembly.
You might have a broken spring or just a rope that has slipped out of the reel.
The spring usually breaks at one of the end tabs. If so, you will need to get a replacement spring and carefully wind that in, before re-assembling the rope reel. You might wish to replace the rope also, if it shows signs
of wear.

You will need to remove the entire cooling shroud. There should be 4 bolts on the sides. You might need to remove the fuel tank also. Pre-wind the recoil reel by hand [about 6 turns, to set the spring tension] and clamp it with Vise-Grip pliers. Remove the old rope. Thread
the new rope through the shroud housing eyelet and to the reel hub. Let the reel re-wind itself until it is full. If there is not enough spring tension you can wind it a couple of turns more by slipping the rope around
between the reel and shroud. Re-clamp the reel. Cut the rope to length and thread it though the handle. At all knots, burn and melt the rope with a
lighter to prevent untying. Re-assemble.

SOURCE: Husquarna petrol hedge trimmer starting problem

it could be extremely flooded with way to much fuel. in the motor.take out the sparkplug turn the ignition switch OFF and pull the starter rope...if there is a lot of fuel blowing out of the cylinder...thats your problem.....buy a new sparkplug and try starting it with no choke and full throttle with the new sparkplug fitted....see how you go.....or its warn out and has no compression to fire up the fuel.....in this case ..its time to upgrade

Homelite 25cc 2cycle trimmer.built in March of 1999. what is the proper oil to gas ratio?

If you use a synthetic 2-stroke oil, you can easily get by running a 40:1 ratio mix...that is 3.2oz oil/gallon of gas. A richer oil mix won't hurt either (say 20:1 (2X the oil of 40:1). I recommend synthetic always be used alongwith Stabil fuel treatment because after about 30 days, gas loses its volatility and begins to breakdown without it...causing fuel problems.

Homelite 21" hedge trimmer. Won't start. Has spark, compression, fuel (used a little starter fluid), checker spark arrestor and muffler (clear). I haven't torn it down to check the Woodruff key but it ran...

Abell, put a little drop of petrol in the plug hole, replace plug and give it a pull. If it fires up for a moment, it is a fuel starvation problem. Check the carb, clean and make sure the nedel valve in the bottom of the carb is not sticking. Good luck!

Homelite hedge trimmer , motor runs but blades do

Had the same problem: when I turn on the trimmer, the motor would hum but the blades won't move.
What I did:
1. Sprayed a ton of wd40 between the blades
2. Took a screwdriver and kinda wedged it between the blades to get them unstuck. Also removed some guck between the blades.
And it worked!
