Hose end sprayers are the simplest and least expensive of the category. A sprayer jar is attached to a regular garden sprayer. Concentrated material is added to the sprayer jar. An adjustment on the jar determines the amount delivered. The force of the water through the hose pulls the material up from the jar and mixes and dilutes it with the water. A built-in anti-siphon device prevents unused material from being pulled back into your water supply. Compression or tank sprayers are the most common type of spray equipment. Concentrated material is added to the tank. Water is then added to a marked fill line. The remaining air is pressurized by pumping the handle a designated number of times. A control lever on the wand controls the spray pattern and amount. Compression sprayers provide a precise, on target, non-drift spray good for soil and lawn pests. Adjust the sprayer for a coarse, drenching spray, a concentrated stream or a fine mist. Tank capacities range from 1 quart to over 3 gallon for handheld models. Homeowner type backpack sprayers hold up 4 gallons. The tanks may be made from polyethylene plastic, galvanized steel or stainless steel. In addition to treatments for pests and diseases, compression sprayers are designed for applying cleaning solutions for decks and siding. Backpack sprayers are operated in the same manner as the handheld compression sprayer. The over-the-shoulder configuration makes it easier to carry the heavier load of material. Some backpack models also use a lever-style pump to maintain pressure without removing the unit form your back. Powered sprayers rely on a gasoline engine for spray power. Great for larger yards or gardens due to portability and capacity (12 gallons). Dusters are a slightly different breed. Dry powders (mostly for blooming plants such as roses) are added to a canister and applied by manually pumping. NOTE: Compression sprayers deliver liquid under pressure. Compression sprayers are powerful and efficient tools. This fact also makes them potentially dangerous. Always read the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions carefully.

It depends on what type of sprayer, but normally you unscrew the end and blow through it front to back, or you can gently use the fining sewing needle you have.

Of course you could be talking about a paint sprayer :>D

I have a ortho sprayette hose end sprayer. I want to apply Drexel Atrazine 4L to my yard. I want to know the application rate for this sprayer for my St. Augustine grass lawn.

Atrazine 4L is a restricted use post-emergent and pre-emergent herbicide formulated by Drexel Chemical Company. It is used to safely control annual broadleaf and grass weeds in cornfields, sugarcane fields, and turfs. The active ingredient, Atrazine will kill weeds as seeds or kill emerged weeds through the root system. Atrazine 4L Herbicide will control for barnyard grass, chickweed, henbit, and more. Atrazine 4L Herbicide is a flexible product that can be mixed, measured, and applied in different ways to prevent unwanted vegetation from taking over crops and ornamental turfs. Atrazine 4L is a restricted use herbicide that can only be purchased and applied by certified applicators.

It is restricted use and requires a license to purchase. Please give us a call if you need a non-restricted use herbicide recommendation.

Tools Needed
To apply Atrazine a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, hose-end sprayer or professional skid sprayer is needed. When applying Atrazine 4L to residential lawns, a handheld pump sprayer or backpack sprayer is recommended.

The yield for Atrazine 4L Herbicide depends on the type grass or cropland the product will be applied to. For most applications, 0.6 to 0.75 ounces of Atrazine 4L will treat up to 500 square feet, and 64 ounces of Atrazine will treat up to 1 acre.

Borrow ATV to do some field spraying but it keeps blowing the 30 amp fuse. Sprayer on its own power. Replace fuse, runs for a couple of minutes then blows, thoughts?
Check the rated amp draw on the sprayer. It might be rated higher.. If the sprayer is wired with too small wire it might be causing too high an amp draw..see if the wires are hot? How is the sprayer grounded? Make sure ALL the wire connections are clean and tight. Use a blade type fuse in a waterproof holder. Recheck all this and repost with the results.

My sprayer is new, but does not keep the pressure, any idea's? It's a 2 gal, pump up type sprayer.
Check under the lid/cover for a rubber gasket. This may have gotten unseated when putting the sprayer top on. It must form a tight seal around the lip of the sprayer top in order to keep the pressure. Alternative: Put water in the sprayer leaving some air on top to build pressure. Put a few drops of dish soap inside and gently stir. Put the cover on, and tilt the sprayer to coat all areas at the top. Start pumping and see where the bubbles come out---there is your leak. If it is near where the sprayer hose enters, and it is a permanent mount, you may have a bad seal. If the sprayer hose unscrews, you may need a new rubber washer inside. If bubbles come out of the wand, or other plastic seams, you may have a crack in the plastic. Depending on the location, you could epoxy over the crack to seal it permanently. Good luck.

I have sometimes had to use a tweezer to remove bits of plastic, paper, bone, or food particles. Once you've remove the debris, rinse well forcing water through to dislodge any other debris. Once you've reattached the sprayer arms, you should have cleaner dishes. Also, some brands of dishwashers have a pipe that runs up the inside back wall and connects to a pipe that runs under the top shelf. Water flowing through this pipe under the top shelf propels the sprayer arms. If the connection at the back is not flush with the "propel" pipe there won't be enough water pressure to turn the sprayer arm. Check to see if your dishwasher has this type of set up.

Once you've remove the debris, rinse well forcing water through to dislodge any other debris. Once you've reattached the sprayer arms, you should have cleaner dishes. Also, some brands of dishwashers have a pipe that runs up the inside back wall and connects to a pipe that runs under the top shelf. Water flowing through this pipe under the top shelf propels the sprayer arms.
