It sounds like you are trying to print a PDF file and your computer needs Adobe Acrobat to open the file before it can print. You may want to try to put the PDF file onto a thumb drive and plug that drive directly into the printers USB port. Most Lexmark printers,(mine included) can directly access PDF files and let you print directly. If it doesn't work, then just download Adobe Acrobat. Its safe and it works.

I Have this printer and it looksl like appr4R is the imaging studio program. Try starting it from the Lexmark 2500 series group in your start menu and see if your scanning returns. It is usually running in the background and managing your printer/scanner.
If that doesn't work try restarting the PC and if that fails it looks like an uninstall/reinstall of the drivers.

i had a similar problem when the printer wouldn't print. Make sure that the printer 3400 lexmark series is the default printer in the control panel. (start/control panel/printers/printers and faxes/right click lexmark 3400 series/set as default printer).

Go into properties when printing and change the quality to draft. It will work, its a workaround I found
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/guXLhl. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.
