We have a compaq presario cq 60 bought in Canada and it's about 3 years old. Until yesterday, the computer battery would hold a charge for about 45 minutes (yes, we know we will have to replace the battery soon), but yesterday, the power started to deplete - got to about 10% power, we plugged it in, and it wouldn't charge. There is no light near the plug-in point (which usually indicates that it's charging). The battery was warm when we pulled it out of the computer, and the end point that goes into the computer (plug) was also warm, but now the computer won't turn on. Does this mean that the battery is finally dead or should we be looking at power connection issues?

You need to replace your old battery. Don't over charged your battery. If you are using your laptop in your house it is better not to use it with battery. Just use the power adaptor/supply only. Then make sure you will drain the battery let say once a week. =)

It sounds to me that the battery is not connecting to your computer. Is it possible that the terminals have been damaged? Or some other issue that is disconnecting the battery from the computer?

Laptop shuts down when using battery

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Can I install the hard drive of my old hp 8510p in my hp presario cq 42? will it run the old windows vista? My new hp presario cq 42 is running the new windows 7?

If the hard drive is compatible with your presario cq 41 then it will work. The operating system does not matter if you're switching hard drives.

If you want to update the operating system on the old hard drive, you will need to have the software for Windows 7.

I have put in a new HD (exact replica) Old drive is dead dead dead. I ordered the recovery disks from ComPQ. after they arrived and didn't work, I "REVERIFIED" them, CQ says these are the right...

there is no Compaq, its HP
if you get this from HP they work
if you didnt his clone bs. and will not work,
the internet is full of crooks, do not buy from crooks.
who the H3LL CQ, ???

this and only this is your source of media kits, HP.com
not only that but the exact service tag MUST MATCH !!!!!!!
your tag was not presented here so zero help possible. !!!!!

CQ is a model prefix for a COMPAQ like Compaq Presario CQ62
CQ is not company or web site, its a model prefix.
why not start over.,
and ask for help first
say I have this Presario
the tag is below (mine below is random example)
then ask how to load the OS, (operation system)
that is first. do not use non HP media or you ill fail
or worse be victim of identity thief, do NO DO THAT.

HP bought out COMPAQ years ago. 16 long years ago
there is no COMPAQ now, only HP support./

Can i put a 2 gb ram upgrade in my compaq presario cq-60 along with the existing 1 gb ram that the computer came with

probably not ... traditional wisdom says memory chips should match for best results and I think there is only two slots ...

if you are physically able to do this ... same number of chips as slots ... take out the old ... put in the new and try it ... then turn it off again ... put in the old ... the worst thing that will happen is your computer will not boot.

No power to Compaq Presario

There were several recalls on Compaq's ac adapters and batteries that caused fire to units...

Check this out

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2006/hp_batteries.html

I would also check with compaq about your problem. They were replacing and repairing the units free of charge due to the defects. I would check with them

Hope this helps you
