Hi,
Your sound system may have a circuit breaker.
Check the rear of the sound system for a circuit breaker that has popped out, Then push it back in.
It may be labelled.

  • circuit breaker
  • protect push power
Otherwise unplug your unit from the wall and wait 5min before you plug it back in, then press the power button on the front of your system and your remote control.

I hope this helps

My stereo sysytem is a mini stereo: serial number 10200055. It currently says "protect", what is this and how do we return our system to normal operations?

Hi there,

When the word PROTECT appears on this display, this means the unit has detected a critical fault which could potentially cause harm to your stereo system.

The most common cause is a short circuit somewhere - something even as simple as loose speaker wiring could cause a short, triggering the Protect message.

You will need to determine if there is a possible short somewhere, so I recommend you start by firstly turning power OFF, disconnecting all speaker wires, then turn unit back ON.

Operate the stereo (without speakers) and turn volume up:
  • If Protect message appears when turning volume up, then stereo unit itself has an internal fault
  • If no Protect message appears, then suspect the speakers may be causing the issue.
  • Reduce volume and turn unit OFF
Re-connect speakers (ensure the connections are secure), turn unit ON:
  • If turning volume up triggers the Protect message again, there is an issue with the speakers or connections

Hope this helps.....

What would cause a 2 day old fridge to shift into the "cooling OFF" mode? We found the reset command purely by luck tonight. Is there any way to switch this mode permanently off?

A power outage. If no power outage you may of had a power surge and with this model it will kick itself to the off position to help protect the unit from anymore damage.

We had a brief power outage--now prinker knunks

In all probability that Power Outage caused a massive Spike or Surge on your power line. This has affected this unit. It doesn't take much to cause this type of thing and is quite common. It may be repairable, however these days buying a new one is often a better option. If you do go the repair route, go to a reputable place, & please ensure you get a firm "Quote" not an "Estimate" for repair.

Protect keeps flashing

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Power Protect still comes on now and again

Amplifier output chip in stereo is defective and unit gives error message of push power protect.
You need to replace output amplifier IC and check supplied voltages.

I recently bought a Philips hts8100/37 for my parents, when I attempt to power it up to configure. I got a "entering low power" message & the glass door won't open. I changed the pwr source...

Check that you bought an appliance with same power specification required for your country.
For example if you are in UK it is 240Volts etc.
