I noticed the door stay about 1/2 inch open and ht e cold air comes out, I expected a fan to create a suction or the air to be vented elsewhere when the door is closed.

Refrigerator section stopped cooling, but the freezer section still works.

Hi. There is a valve in the top corner of the frigde that controls the cold Air to flow from the freezer to cool the fridge. This valve called a damper closes when the door is opened. You have to depress the door switch and listen for the fan in the freezer to switch on then feel for cold air to flow into the fridge compartment. The fan could have failed or the damper valve could be stuck closed.

I have a 23' free standimg dispensing side by side ref. my ref is not cooling but the freeze part is working

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer and into the fridge side, there are ducts on the bottom left side where the air return sto the freezer,if that's blocked the fridge will get warm, also if the fan is blowing depending on your model you could have a damper,it's in the fridge section up top where the cold air blows into, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the air in when the fridge section gets warm and then it closes when it's cold enough,if the damper is bad it won't open and let the air in,sometimes it gets stuck in the open position and things start to freeze in the fridge section.if you can't figure it out send the model number and i can see what model you have, open the fridge door, look up on the right side near the ceiling and you should see a tag with the model number.good luck and have a great weekend.also from the bottom up in the freezer, remove the second bin of food and touch the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find.

The problem is damper assembly. In the damper assembly there is a door. This door opens and close with the help of motor. The damper is located between freezer and fridge section. The cold air from freezer section enters to fridge section via this damper door.---------- What repairmen did was proper, but may be that door is not properly got open, it got closed again.Or there is ice got collected between the freezer and freezer section, so this is not letting the cool air to pass from freezer to fridge.----------- ---------- This damper assembly needs to be replaced.Actually this door functions correctly with motor. He open the damper door manually and thought, the cool air will enter the fridge section non stop, but that door is again got closed, by some how.--------- You will have to get the damper assembly part replaced, to get the air flow work properly.------- As the repair man has already ordered the part, otherwise you can get this parts from online sites like www.repairclinic.com or from sears parts direct site.-------- Getting the damper door assembly, replaced will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

When a refrigerator door is left open the freezer will continue to run to keep it cold and since it can't cool an open area it will freeze up on the inside, to resolve this you will need to unplug the fridge and open the freezer door and allow the freezer to thaw completely, once it is thawed you can plug it back in and everything should go back to normal after a 24 hour period

The refrigerator is not cold only cool. the freezer door got accidentally left ajar and got ice build-up on the food. Ever since that the refrigerator portion is only slightly cool not cold. I moved the...

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. The ice may have also stopped up this opening blocking the air flow.Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Referidgerator side is not cooling?? Help?

I had this problem. Here's what I found: The cooling core on the freezer side was froze up. Covered in ice. I think the reason this happened was that the freezer door was held open by one of the slide out trays just enough to pull in outside air. Don't know how long it was like this. When I found it (and corrected it) the interior of the freezer was covered in ice crystals. From then on the refer side contents began warming up. There was no flow of cool air to the refer side from the freezer side (this cool air comes in from the freezer side fan near the top left side of the refer side). Freezer side was near zero temp and the unit ran continuously. Here's what I did: Removed everything from both sides (put it all in another fridge/freezer). Turned off (or unpluged) the fridge and left it off over night. I put towels under the fridge because there can be an over flow of water that could go to the floor. It works great again.
