sounds like an old tiolet (3.5 gpf) my best answer is to replace with new fluidmaster! (lowes or homedepot) easy fix!

u will probly get a diagram with the pack u buy if u bay new sistern parts ,but its not that hard. pay atension to detail whan u disesenbel it. mostly to the rubbers and if u do have a leak use silicone. most rubers will be 1 inside 1 outside with washer holding it tight. sould be a breez bt if u are having any probs let me know im a proper plumber. wil coutch u threw. plz give me a reating. started using fixya tonight and if my advice helps ur rating wil help me help more ppl thx. o and if there is not a diegram in packet thast ask hardwear store to give u 1 or to exsplian. just gone on internet. they dont have 1 i can post to u sory. bt try and ill help u if u have a problem

Adjust the water setting of the tank to higher level, meaning an additional water will be added to the tank. The purpose of this is to release extra water that will fill the missing water level in the bowl.

Did you try calling or emailing the parts dept. at american standard? I am not sure if they just sell the gasket. American standard parts are certainly different from most toilets. I looked on ebay, not much for american standard toilets. Were you able to remove the four screws and get the sealer under the gasket.? I will do some more research for you and try to find parts. take care, andy
