As long as they are the same size and fitting, you can just swap them round
start here with this link, and look for the Dell logo..you may need to hunt inside that area, for the cd/dvd drives, but you'll be close enough

it may be a driver problem. try updating the drivers. go through your control panel to device manager and find your dvd/cd rom device. right click and click update drivers. also sometime to shutdown, remove the device, restart. load windows shutdown and reinstall the device again then once again restart. your system will then have unrecognized the found new device and updated your drivers automaticly.

to install a CD drive to the computer, you should physically insert the CD drive to the computer. then connect the power from power source inside to the computer and IDE cable came from the mother board connection.
Its a plug and play device so don't need to install anything jut the CD Rom itself to the computer.
Look for the proper place on where to put the CD drive to the computer.
