Hi,

Well, you can order Recovery Disc from Samsung which can be used to restore the laptop to factory settings.

If you wanted, you can install an operating system on your own. You need to either buy a copy of Windows or download it. If you download a copy of Windows you need to burn it to a CD or USB. Then boot the laptop up into the USB or CD and it will install Windows. It will reset the computer to new but not exactly like it was when you purchased it. Why? Well, Samsung and other companies preload a lot of junk software into the laptops with the operating system. This is how the make extra money. That is one reason why I don't really use the factory recovery disk.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
G33k

I WANT TO REFORMAT MY SAMSUNG NP-R60Y TO FACTORY SETTINGS WITHOUT THE PREVIOUS OWNERS INFORMATION BEING THERE

If you perform a Full Installation (Destructive Installation), the computer will be back to day 1, when it came from the factory.

This means the previous owner hadn't been there yet, and all of the previous owner's files do NOT exist.

This is done with either;

1) Restoration Disk:
When you receive the laptop new, and run it for the first time, a pop-up comes up asking if you would like to make a Backup.
THIS,...is the Restoration Disk.

[ Or perhaps Samsung included the Restoration Disk (CD)
Laptop manufacturers are starting to include the disk again. The reason they stopped because owners were too afraid to use it, or just lost the disk. { "Don't need this! Look out cat!" ]

2) New genuine copy of Windows:
Purchase a new genuine copy of Windows, and install it.
ALL previous files (Info) will be gone.

[ Microsoft makes one Master disk. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer.

IF, you are installing the SAME version of Windows that is on the laptop, you need to go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Order, set the first boot device to CDROM ]
