I have a 2-wire 2701HG-B modem/router that I use with my AT&T DSL service. I would like to connect a Netgear WN3000RP Universal WiFi Range Extender. To do so I need to press the "WPS button" on my modem/router and then press the same button on the extender. Unfortunately I cannot find anyinformation on where this "WPS button" exists on my modem/router. Would you please tell me how to find it or a potential work-around to connect my extender. Thanks.

Well that's not very good news. If i went to Best Buy to purchase a new modem/router to replace the 2-wire (so that it would work with the extenders) is there a specific kind you would reccomend that would be compatabile with my AT&T DSL and work in lieu of my 2-Wire? Thanks.

Doesn't look like your router/modem supports WPS, here is the manual. http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701HG_user_guide.pdf
I would check your Range extender model because some allow for a wired configuration
Here is a How To, to configure the extender via cable and utility http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/41

If your just trying to get the extender to work then follow the bottom half of my solution that should work fine or pick up an N router/modem combo. N has much better range and speeds then a b or g

This one is $80 at best buy which is pretty cheap.

This one will also most definitely work with your extender if you kept it as well. and the WPS button is on the front btw.

How to Install Netgear Router Using the Wireless Device

hi john.
To install your NETGEAR wireless router using your wireless device:
  1. Get the preset wireless settings of your NETGEAR router. It is written on the back or at the bottom of your device.
  2. On your wireless device, open the WiFi connection manager and find the SSID or WiFi network name of your NETGEAR router.

Your connection is limited

What router and where is it that you are connecting the Extender to? An extender is not a router. You need a router to extend the wifi signal from.

Need help with netgear universal wifi range extender WN3000RP

Not knowing to much about this unit and based on what a quick search told me, this should (i Hope) be your fix.
On the side of the unit you have a cable connection this cable connection needs to connect to a router or at least to whatever cable box you are using for the network. Be advised that this ius simply a range extender, meaning that it will provide very low security from hackers, it's job is to extend the range and area of the router which does most of the work for you.
You will need to find a spot for the range extender, place it where you want then measure the3 distance to the modem. That's the length of cable you will need, Plug the CAT5 cable into the modem/router and the other end into the range extender and wait five minutes. You should be good to go then.
Hope this helps.

I can not gem=t my WN2500RP to connect to my Netgear Router

To properly set up the WN3000RP you first have to push the WPS or Push 'N' Connect button on the router-WN2500RP(on the back of the router between the reset and the wired connection slots) and then the Push 'N' Connect button on the extender. It should negotiate and establish a connection between them.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

Can I use AT&T 2701HG-B 2W Wireless Gateway DSL

yes, you can use them together. they'll find each other at protocol layer 2 (bridge) and layer 3 (router),
and route packets appropriately. Check their manuals to make sure that their HTTP management page ip addresses are different - say 192.168.0.0 for one router and 192.168.1.1 for the other - so that you
can manage them separately without disconnecting them.
You'll want to manage them separately to assign them different wireless-N channels. Channel 6 is
the default, and allowing both to compete on the same channel is a bad idea - give each its own
wi-fi channel. There are 11 wireles 802.11n channels, labeled 1-11.

Diagram: DSL === AT&T 2701HG-B ---------- NetGear router --------------- desktop computer

Each link in the diagram above is an ethernet (802.3 10baseT) cable (except the DSL cable,
which is twisted pairs), and wireless devices can
hop onto the Internet by wirelessly connecting to either the AT&T 2701 or the NetGear router.

Can i use a wireless cable modem gateway (netgear) to make my current dsl modem connection wireless.

If your DSL-modem has one Ethernet port, then use an Ethernet cable to connect from that port to the WAN port on your NetGear router. Then, the router will provide both "wired" and "wireless" connections to your computers & devices.
