I pulled the door off my advantium today to clean it after I cleaned the vent grille. I set the door carefully on it's side so I thought but a small little plastic piece broke off where the door latches. I thought about using some really strong glue to glue the piece back on. I believe without it the microwave won't cook. The timer functions all work, it's just that the actual cook mechanism won't work. Is it a safety issue? How necessary is that little piece of plastic? Is there something else going on? Do I need to just get a new part or a new door and not waste my time trying to glue it back together? Please help..........I want to have my microwave back without a huge expense and we have a big party next weekend.

sometimes you may have to remove all the screws on top to allow the cabinet metal to be a little more loose. then you'll just have to carefully, but forcefully, pull the grill loose from the left side first, then the other side. good luck.

How do you get the front vent off to clean it. My microwave was manufactured in July 1993 and is an under the counter type?
Usually the manufacturer will provide a way for you to be able to remove it IF they would want you to (e.g. for cleaning purposes). If there's no instruction label for that, then don't.

Always check your manual for cleaning instructions. I found a manual of the same model and you can use as a reference for cleaning your unit.

How do you clean the vented area at the top
Two screws on the top of the grill can be removed, then the grill pulls straight off.

Caution - I broke the tabs on the grill where the screws hold metal tabs - $98 for a new grill!

You will need to remove the top grill vent first, then you can remove the screws coming in from the top of the grille vent then that will expose a screw holding down the control panel at the top. Remove the screw and remove the control panel. The fuse is located in a little 1" fuse holder just behind the front panel near the top.

GE Profile microwave remove top grill
1. Unplug power.
2. Remove two screws holding grille, either on top of the front edge of the outer case or in the grille itself.
3. The grille should lift right out. In not, you may need to pull it to the left about 1/4".

Paint blistering on inside of advantium oven. Could get into food?
It could.

You should sand it down, then wipe with alcohol to be sure it's squeaky clean and dry.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

To avoid moisture buildup inside, be sure your vent / hood exhaust fan is always on when you cook on the stove top.

Also, leave the door open for a few minutes after cooking in it, and even wipe it down inside if needed.
