The freezer is fine and keeps a steady cold temp, enough to keep bagged ice frozen and not melt. The refrigerator doesn't seem to be getting cold enough. I can only get it down to about 52 degrees. There isn't ice buildup in the freezer and there is air flow between the two, it just isn't getting cold enough.

Is the line going out of compressor, hot? If it is not, there is not enough gas.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldsport freezer drain repeated freezes

probably the easiest fix for this is install a drain probe to transfer heat from the defrost heater into the drain hole to prevent ice build up. take a peice of 10 or 12 guage solid copper wire and wrap one end around the defrost heater pretty tight and put the other end down in the drain line 2-4 inches.

SOURCE: Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

I have a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator. The freezer is not cooling enough to keep frozen. It is blowing cold air and the refrigerator part seems to be working.

If your freezer is cold then you may have a defrost cycle issue. There are typically three components for the defrost cycle. Heater bar, thermostat and timer. If the defrost system fails ice starts to build up in the back of the freezer until it prevents cold air from getting into the fridge. When I took off the back panel inside my freezer it was a block of ice. You can melt the ice with a hair dryer and order new parts.

I have a Whirlpool White Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator GS6SHAXLQ03, manufactured March 2003. The ice maker creates ice and fills the "holding bin" on the interior of the door. However,...

The ice will melt during the defrost cycle. Make sure your freezer is cold enough, at least -5, preferably -10. also, if your freezer is not full of food, put some milk jugs full of water in there to take up space. This will keep the temp colder when the compressor shuts off for the defrost cycle. if there is too much empty space, there is not enough mass to stabilize the temperature and keep it cold.

Refridgerator/Freezer will not get cold

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer

If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
