I understand that you are not able to go online through the router WNDR3400. Please perform the below task to reset and reconfigure the router:
RESET:
With the help of a paper clip, press the reset button on the back of the router for 20 seconds (please refer to the label on the bottom of the router for reset button location). Release the reset button after 20 seconds and turn off the router. Turn the router on after few seconds.
CONNECTIONS:
1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port). 2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable). 3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections. 4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights to come on and then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari. 2. Access the router's GUI by typing http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com. 3. When prompted for Username and Password, please enter 'admin' for the Username and 'password' for Password. 4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section. 5. Click Apply. 6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
Unfortunately your switch is what is known as an "unmanaged" switch meaning you cannot make changes to it in any way. It is simply a plug and go device. If you want a switch that can control internet access you would be better off buying a "managed" switch or a switch that supports something called a "VLAN". A VLAN is a technology where you can make certain ports part of a virtual network and you can restrict certain access on these virtual networks such as internet access.
If it is a certain computer that you want to block internet access to you can possibly do that though your router's firewall's configuration.
The lights means the port is active and working. Does the lan connection show as connected on the computer, what IP are you getting if any? Does the college use a proxy?
It appears you are not using the wireless connections on both the routers and the reason for using Router B was that there were insufficient LAN ports on Router A to connect to the two workstations that are connected to Router B. To simplify your network, I suggest you replace Router B with a network hub or ethernet switch and connect the two workstations to this network hub/switch, then configure these two workstation to Obtain an IP address automatically. Router A will then issue IP address to these workstations via the network hub/switch.
Turn the cable-modem off.
Turn the router off.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the cable-modem to the 'WAN' (or 'INTERNET') port on the router.
Use another Ethernet cable to connect one of the 'LAN' (or 'NETWORK') ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.
Turn the cable-modem on, and wait for its lamps to settle-down to a steady pattern.
Turn the router on, and wait for its lamps to settle-down to a steady pattern.
On your computer, you should be able to access the Internet.
Also, look at the colour of the EIGHT wires at each of each Ethernet cable.
The order of the coloured wires should be IDENTICAL at both ends.
maybe you need to configure this ethernet switch or it is a password problem i have used a ethernet splitter switch to use two connect 2 computers before purchasing a router which needed to be configured
hope this helps
