I recently bought an HDMI cable for my xbox 360 (the new type, i don't know if it has a name but its the one with the touch sensitive power button), and when I plug the cable into the xbox and the tv and then turn them on I get the sound but not the picture. when the HDMI cable is not plugged in the the sound and display is fine. I have tried this with two different HDMI cables and both do the same thing.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. You elimanted the cable as a potential problem so that is good. You are left with a couple of options that might be causing the problem.

-Bad HDMI port on the XBOX
-Bad HDMI port on the TV
-Incorrect TV settings

On the TV, you want to make sure you set it to the HDMI input when you are using HDMI, but I assume you already do this and most newer TV's will auto adjust to HDMI when the xbox is turned on. Always good to double check.

The easiest way to narrow the problem down further would be to test the hdmi connection with another TV. If the xbox works on another TV then you narrowed the problem down to the TV and will need to repair the TV either through warranty support, by yourself or via a TV repair man. If the xbox has the same trouble on a different TV then you know the problem is with the XBOX and you can contact Microsoft Xbox support for repairs.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
G33k

I have an xbox 360, but i have a ps3 connect to the tv via hdmi. i swapped the hdmi cable to the xbox and powered on. i had all the cables in the correct position, the correct av selected on the tv, but...

Have you tried disconnecting the HDMI cable from both the TV and the console and then trying to reconnect?

Y+RT does not reset controllers for the Xbox 360, so not sure what you are attempting there?

What type of TV do you have? It appears the issue is with either your cable or the TV seeing that you are having the same issue with both your PS3 and Xbox 360.

I still think your first step should be to disconnect all cables from both ends and reconnect. (with poer off of all sytems of course) If this doesn't solve your issue then submit further information on your setup such as TV make and model and I can research other possibilities.

Hello, I recently hooked my Xbox 360 up to my surround sound system using a digital optical cable ran from the xbox to the TV (optical cable from 360 to sound system) Sound and video works great for...

HDCP is the "handshake" protocol used by the Xbox to communicate via HDMI to your TV. The optical cable wouldn't have anything to do with this error. So far the only solution that's been found to this issue is to ensure that the HDMI cable is properly plugged in and power off/on both devices and see if the handshake is restored. If this doesn't work you may need a new HDMI cable.

I have just bought an xbox 360 conected it to my tv allcables connected picture great but no sound

Hi Douglas

I imagine you have bought the new slim Xbox 360? Did you use a HDMI cable to connect it to your TV or did you use the standard cable? If you used a standard AV cable ensure that you connected the red and white cables into the same AV input as the yellow video cable.

My cable from my xbox 360 ,will not connect to my tv as i have only red /yellow/white,connections on my tv ,i am trying to get hdmi,i have tried a hdmi cable from xbox to tv ,what else can i try.thanks.

You are going to need to get another cable. Your TV was not made for HDMI input. The best display you can get is standard definition. It would be cheaper and easier to get a new cable vs. getting an HDMI to Component adaptor. Radio Shack sells these cables pretty cheap. Good Luck!

My Xbox 360 is in black and white, it also has no sound!!

The problem could lie in the audio video cable or Hdmi cable. Try replacing that or even taking the 360 back for a new one. If thats not the solution then it could be the input on your tv.

Xbox 360 hdmi cable

Make sure both the xbox and tv are on and tv is on HDMI source. It won't recognize each other unless xbox is turned on and tv is set to the correct source.
