GE Profile bad igniter keeps sparking and wont turn off. Its a switch I assume. How to reach it and how to fix it?

  • jpns1 Jul 02, 2011

Thank you. This appears to be more than a home fix it since the cooktop is installed and caulked onto the counter.

The igniter continues to spark several times a second. Is there a danger in this? Thanks.

The igniter switch is located just below the knobs, If you pull the knob off and look in the hole that the shaft comes through, you will see the igniter switch, To replace them you will need to remove the cook top and flip it over and remove the cover section so that you can get to the back of the controls

No danger as long as the knobs are off, just an annoyance
You can pull the knobs and try to clear the igniters with a tooth pick or something similar that is non metallic .

Good luck and have a great day

GE JGP 945 continues to spark. Removed all igniters but continues to click. Bad Spark Module?

no,its a bad switch on one of the gas valves, they are piggybacked on the gas valve and are supposed to turn on and off as the valve is turned on and off,on has broken and is on all the time even with that valve in the off position, carefully remove each switch from the circuit till it no longer sparks with all the valves in the off position
