My Whirlpool Gold Model # GR9FHMXP is leaking water from the freezer (through the vent holes) down into the inside of the refrig - it is freezing up around the base of the vent on the inside freezer floor. The ice maker is not attached and working. How can I get it to stop leaking

sounds like your defrost drain is clogged up. it can be cleaned by taking off the metal or plastic panel and cleaning out the defrost drain hole. a steamer works best.
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
Sorry I am not there to help you.
Ok, I have several Questions:
1.) I think you have a bad bi-Metl. On your cooling (Evaporator) Coil. This $20.00 component controls your unit temperature.
2.) You have a air vent from your freezer to your fresh food section. Put your hand in front of the vent. Do you feel cool wet air? Do you feel any air?
3.) Remove the filters. You do not need filters to run.
4.) You can shut down your unit for 24 hours. It will work for about a day, but this will not solve your problem.
I do not know what model number you have, so I can not be exact on how to fix your problem.
It can have an air leak, but also a clogged drain pan under the freezer evaporator coil. If the refrigerator is getting warm, then it may be another issue
Did you inspect if the hole in the drain inside the fridge at the bottom is not blocked? Try to clean it with a swab. Sometimes this causes a "leakage" of condensed water.
Water valves leak like a leaking faucet sometimes. They just will not close all the way allowing water to bypass the valve and either drip at dispenser or drip and make a mess in freezer. Your model takes a=> 2219592 Water Valve - Dual Outlet
Change the dual water control valve and I believe this will solve this problem, Thanks Sea Breeze
there is a drain in the freezer so when the fridge defrosts the water drains down to the pan in the bottom of fridge, your drain is blocked, you need to take off the inside freezer back wall, melt out the ice with a hair dryer and then unblock the drain,i use a steamer to do this, they cost around 50 bucks, the drain line is plastic so you don't want to go sticking anything down the line that can damage it,slime builds up in the line or food particles go down the drain and then ice builds up in the line, the steamer cuts through this and sanitizes the line,if the drain goes strait you can install a heater probe,it's just a piece of metal that you rap around the heater and stick the other end down the drain hole so it won't freeze up again, when you think the line is clear, pour hot water down the drain to make sure it's clear,be careful when melting out the ice with hair dryer,to much heat can damage the styrofoam, make sure the air vents are melted out, they are the holes in the styrofoam, you might have to melt it out from inside the refridgerator section heating the area up on the ceiling, also make sure the control is shut off to the freezer, you don't want the fan to be blowing, good luck
Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or COPPER , solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .
You need to remove the ice maker and open the front carefully. It has small micro switches inside it and it sounds like one that opens the water control valve is stuck in the on position. Be careful not to loose the arm spring and how that goes back together as you take it apart. Sea Breeze
remove back panel inside freezer. you will see a tray at the bottom with a drain hole in the middle and this is blocked with ice. melt ice off with a hairdryer and follow up with hot water till water flows away freely
