My Radio Shack Digital Telphone Answering Device TAD-3829 worked well for a little over a year. However a few days ago I discovered that I cannot receive incoming calls anymore; on the callers side there one gets either a busy signal or a "Call failed" message. If I connect the phone directly to the wall jack the phone works OK. Any suggestions and/or hints will be appreciated. Rgds / Max Hochuli

These 3829's do that often. After about 1 year or so of use, something fails internally, resulting in the symptom you see. Sometimes you get "Er" on the display, or the machine simply won't pick up and answer the call.
Bottom line - this model's not very good. Ditch it.

Greeting message
To Record Outgoing Message on Radio Shack’s Answering Machine [Model 43-3829]:

Press and Hold the ANNC/DAY/<< button. You’ll hear a beep; continue to hold down the ANNC/DAY/<< button and record your message. When recording of your [outgoing] message is complete, release the ANNC/DAY/<< button. Your message will automatically play back for you.
