Hello,Can you tell me how te unlock a Kenwood KDC-W8531?i bought it new 5 years ago and no longer have the security code,i looked at the unlock instructions but my display has no Auto-key. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2012

Thanks for responding first of all.I already tried the 3 steps described below but it won't help because i have no AUTO key (sol1) and i have no DISPLAY key(sol.2).I do own the remote from when i bought it (it's a RC-527) and stil got the bill and the manual and stuff but calling KENWOOD is no option becouse i'm from Belgium and here they ask 115 euro's to unlock it.Ialready installed a new KENWOOD(KDC-W7541U) in my CRX but i liked the 8531 better. So it's not urgent but i like to swap the radio's sometimes.

SOURCE: lost the Code for Kenwood Car-radio KDC-W6527

Try code KCAR entered from the remote

Common Kenwood Security Codes
Many Kenwood radios are configured with the same security codes:

KCAR - This seems to be a "backdoor" to some Kenwood models.
3051 - This is the security code which is printed in the manual of many Kenwood models.
1234 - This is a security code commonly chosen by Kenwood owners.
Entering Your Kenwood Security Code
If the car battery fails or is disconnected, the Kenwood will ask for the security code.

The procedure to enter your security code differs on various models of Kenwood car stereos. Here are three of the more common procedures:

Type 1
During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds until the "..." display disappears.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 2
Press and hold the "Auto" button and "Track up" (next track button on the right) on the face of radio at the same time until the four dash lines disappear.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 3: Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset keys until the display shows the letter 'C'.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Entering Letters on your Kenwood Remote
To enter a letter using your Kenwood remote, press a button once for the first letter, twice for the second letter, and three times for the third letter -- then press the Track Up or Next Track key to send the letter.

To send the letter 'A', press the 2 key once and then press the Track Up key. To send the letter 'B', press the 2 key twice and then press the Track up key.

Finally, when you are done entering all of the letters, press and hold the Track Up button for 3 seconds.

The key sequence to enter the security code KCAR is:

5
5
Track Up
2
2
2
Track Up
2
Track Up
7
7
Track Up
Your Kenwood should then enter tuner mode.

A Security Code Bug in some Kenwoods
There is a reported bug in the security code handling of some Kenwood stereos. In models with thie bug, the security code is stored incorrectly. The workaround is to enter the wrong security code.

In models with this bug, you have to decrement the third character of the security code by one. If your security code was 1111, you would enter your security code as 1101. If your security code was 9999, you would enter 9989.

i hope this works for you.

SOURCE: Kenwood KDC-C717 - E-99 error

There is probably a jammed disc or disc holder. It cant eject the cartridge because the unit cant put the disc back into the cartridge to the left.

Took me a about 20 mins gentle persuasion after removing the plastic front (carefully depress the little plastic clips on the edges and (again, gently, lever the front off) and removing the metal case - half a dozen screws each side and remove the bottom. The top stays fixed to the workings. I could then get into the gap between the top case and workings but be careful not to pull the unit from the rubber antishock mountings etc. and remove the problem disc.

I removed the plastic fascia which surrounds the magazine hole too, not sure if it was necessary..!

Again - be careful not to be rough with it, you dont want to snap the plastic clips, etc and also check the horizontal/vertical adjusters are back on in the correct position if they come off.

You can try and call 1800-Kenwood and ask a tech, in the past we had to send them to a kenwood service center. Some authorized kenwood dealers have a universal code.

I lost my security code when I changed my car battery. How do I reset it?? I purchased the car used 5 years ago.

Hello there... well I have this bit of information for you from the Kenwood MP528 manual...

When the Security Code function is activated, the code
can’t be changed and the function can’t be released.
Note, the Security Code can be set as the 4 digit number
of your choice

That's from Page 23 of this manual(which does apply to your model):

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File/Global/Consumer/Manuals/KDCX589.pdf

At this point I'm not certain about what options you may have...
