I have installed the program for the lexmark pro205 and the printing and fax work, except the scanning doesnt work. What can I do to fix that?

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below: 
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.  2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks."  Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page. 
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps. 
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below: 
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.  2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.  3. Get a damp paper towel.  4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.  5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.  6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.  7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.  8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."  9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.

OCR stands for Optical Character Recogniton.

It's a program that can take images of scanned documents, (text), and recognize each character, then retype it as a text document that can be edited or reformated as you wish.

Chances are you tried the OCR function, and haven't installe the option for OCR.

It's one of several software programs that would have come with the Installation CD which would also have included, the Drivers for the printer and scanner, a copy utility, diagnostic utility and other stuff.

In the opening menu, perhaps an extras menu will have the option to install OCR.

Try the installation again to see if there is the option.

Other than that, you should be able to "Aquire" images through the scanner via an immage utility (File / Aquire / Scanner), or Microsoft Office program (Insert / Image / From scanner or camera).
Also there is a PhotoCopy function on the device that takes a Scan from the scanner and prints it directly to the printer.

"Connection with Computer Failed" When I Try to Scan

If the primitive (as you call it) Windows Scan program is working then there is no problem with the machine. It can connect to the computer.
I suspect that the other (non primitive) scanning software is not configured correctly. It may be using a wrong driver. You may have installed some other device that is able to scan (such as a program that capture screens from calculators) and it has been set as default driver. Check the configuration of your scanning software.

Error communicating with scanner

If you're able to print fine, try using our Lexmark Printer Home software to scan. To access that, on your computer, click on Start > All Programs > Lexmark > Lexmark Printer Home.

If you're also having problems printing, it could be there's a communication problem. You might want to reinstall the software for your Lexmark Pro205: http://bit.ly/sW3OnE

Fax solutions software stopped working

Uninstall the Lexmark software including the Fax Solutions. Download an updated driver online at www.lexmark.com and install the updated driver. Once you have installed the updated driver, insert the installation CD to install the OCR and Fax Solutions.

Lexmark pro 200 doesnt print text

This sounds like a software problem. Try to uninstall the Lexmark software and download an updated driver online for your Lexmark Pro205.

Also, try printing from a different application. If you're printing from a webpage using Internet Explorer for example, try installing Chrome or Firefox to check if you're able to print from there.

How do i get it to scan

If you're scanning documents to edit or save as PDF file, make sure to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The OCR scan software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center to request for one.
