MadBindus has lead me to the Epson site - but no sign of Smart-Scan software there. I had successfully loaded Twain and Printer drivers before - but pressing the scan button leads me to a near-useless window offering three ill-chosen applications to use for the scan. I get a much better facility via the twain souce in Paintshop Pro.
Where is that elusive Smart-Scan software??
Alternatively, how do I get PSP to be a selectable item in the pop-up list when I press the scan button?
You can program the scan button by going to "Control Panel" and "Scanner's and Camera's.
Right Click the scanner and go to "Properties"
Select the "Events" tab
It should allow you to program your one touch button from here. I just wanna verify that you do have the CX3200 and not a Stylus Scan 2500?
As you already know, you do not the need the Smart Panel (smart scan) to actually use the scanner. The Bonus Software called smart panel (options include "Scan and Save, Scan to .Application, Scan to email, Copy utlity etc." is actually made by a company called Newsoft (www.newsoftinc.com). You would most likely have to purchars that program from them as i have never seen it as a free down load.
If your program is not showing up in the events tab, forget about that method... no mayyer what u do it will not show up there.... trust me.
But, please explain to me exactly how it used to be, step by step, when u used to scan and all was good. I may be able to figure a simple solution for you.

Thanks MB - just to confirm it is CX3200.
I have been to properties/events before - the only applications offered are
FinePixViewer
Canon CameraWindow
ACDSee 7.0
I can't find where this list is stored (I've looked in the registry)
Bob
Thanks MadBindus
From your comments, I think I'm as close as I'm going to get - which is to initiate the scan from Paintshop Pro - which is where I want the scan anyway (except on the rare OCR occasions).
Works fine from there. I might as well disable the scan button on the machine (via properties/events).
Thanks for all your help. Bob
