I entered a dvd passcode on my sons Sony DVP-FX810 to stop my son from watching rated R or explicit movies. He is off from home and I forgot the code. I do not see a reset hole like where you put in a toothpick or an option to master reset the DVD player. Please help!

Fortunately Sony built in a default password for occasions such as yours. The procedure is laid out on page 45 of your manual. Follow these steps to make use of the built in password:

1) Go to the Parental settings on your menu and choose PASSWORD.

2) input "136900" in the box marked "Old Password".

3) Enter a new password in the "New Password" box. Enter the same password in the "Verify Password" box then press Enter to confirm.

You should now be able to use the new password that you setup above.

Unfortunately if the door is latched but with power then the loading motor section is struck or failed. If there is no power at all the power supply unit has failed. you will need to check on the SMPS unit . Check my tips column for SMPS maintenance.

Forgot passcode for parental settings.

Put the DVD in the PS2 and when the prompt for the password appears, press SELECT to bring up the delete password screen and enter the code 7444. Then register a new password.

Won't read dvd

Try switching the LINE SELECT button from OUT to IN, then back to OUT. This solved the problem in which our Sony DVP-FX810 player showed LOADING for around 30-45 seconds and then CHECK DISC.
