My dryer is a whirlpool electric dryer that was brand new in 1998. The dryer was on, working fine...suddenly it just stopped. It was making a clicking noise. It refused to cut back on when I pushed the button. Once I switched the drying cycle to OFF, the clicking stopped. I've gone back and checked it several times after the COOL DOWN period so to speak, as it had dried my first load of clothes...the shut off happened after having turned it on to dry my second load and 2 minutes into it, it quit...anyway, after I checked it again and again, it refuses to come on. Help!!

Dryer Stopped Heating

Use a multimeter to check the heating element. You can't always go by looks. Check continuity and if there is none, the element is defective. Another thing to check is the thermal fuse. It is about an inch long and is usually attached to the exhaust duct. Use the meter to check it as well and if defective, replace it. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.
