The modem will plug into the router, it should come with a cable for this, there will be 5 ports on the router, one will be labeled as internet most likely , this is the one you use, the other 4 will be numbered and you can use any of these to connect your tower. the wireless should work automaticly for your laptop, but if you want to make it a secure network, please contact me directly and ill walk you through it.
hope this was helpful

Hi i bought the smc wireless router and i tries to connect it but i couldnt figure out how to connect it because i have a laptop and my internet is connected from my modem to my laptop but i cant seem to...

I'm unsure of the exact part number here but using the model number I checked the manual. This looks like it's just an access point which extends a current network you have. If you only have your laptop, this device and your internet modem it may not give you the wireless connectivity you're looking for. On a normal setup you would plug your modem into a router, plug your laptop into the router and set it up with all your DSL/Cable connection information as well as wireless on/off. You can then unplug from the router and continue life. with this one it's only connecting to an existing setup (another router or another wireless network) and extending it.
If you are looking for a solution to give you a router that connects to your modem and gives you wireless or adding multiple devices on a single connection I would recommend returning this and getting an all-in-one router such as this: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Routers/Linksys-E1000-Wirelessn-router_stcVVproductId97826160VVcatId551966VVviewprod.htm?icid=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn&src2=linksys-specs-e1000-learnmore-btn

I purchased your product,(router1000) Hughes Net hooked it to my laptop and now I am trying to connect a wireless adapter to my other computer. Being asked for a password. Where do I find this?? Both...

It is looking for a NetWork Key or password that was set up when your router was installed. That network key protects your network from some one else connecting to your network. You can reset your router where it will forget that network key and when you start it back up it will be an open network not needng a password, but you are going to have to learn how to enter your router's set uo menu and replace that factory setting with another key. Take a look at:

http://www.linksysbycisco.com/UK/en/support/E1000/download and down load what ever you need. You also should read the manual, you can down load if you want to.

Since getting a new Dell laptop and Linksys E1000 (also have HP desktop), my internet connection keeps dropping (no problems ever before)- sometimes I can stay online for 2-3 hours or it can go in 15...

Hi,

we need to first figure out whether it the modem or the router which is dropping the connection.

Please connect one of your computer directly to the modem, by pass the router and access the internet. If the connection drops then its the modem which is dropping the connection and you need to contact your isp to check it.

If the internet works fine directly with the modem then its your router which is dropping the connection. To fix the router we can upgrade it firmware.

To upgrade the firmware please visit the link below;

Note; If you are not comfortable upgrade the firmware then don’t do it. If not done properly then it can damage your router.

Lose internet connection (hughes net) when hooking up router

I would contact your hughes net, that is a satelite provider. That is a total different system, than dsl or cable. Hughes net should be able to walk you through the setup.

Can you hook up the router without hooking to a tower

Yes the Router can be hooked to a high speed modem like DSL or Cable, that high speed connection would go from the modem to the "internet" port of the router. Now the router would need to be configured if you need wireless, and then a temporary connection to a tower or laptop would be needed.

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Broadband router

You need to plug your blue cable back into your laptop and the other end needs to go into your hughes modem, or you could leave the end that is plugged into your hughes modem and put the end that is now in the desktop modem into your laptop instead. To have the desktop on the internet you have to remove the end in the laptop and put it into the desktop modem.

The blue cable is spare unless you have any extra sockets that will accommodate it in your hughes modem and have both laptop and desktop connected to it.
