Hello, welcome to fixya.

Based on your post I understand you have a "SD" error problem (looks like a 5D in the digital display) with a Kenmore washer, the error means an excessive drain time or excessive suds was detected as you may or may not already know.

If you follow the link to my solution to this error designed specifically for "do-it-yourselfers" you should be fixed up in no time. (It's much quicker for me than pasting or retyping the complete solution several hundred times, that's how common this is)

Thank you for visiting fixya for your washer inquiry. Please take a moment to rate my assistance both here and on my tip link and leave a brief testimony.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

I have a Kenmore HE2t Front loading washer. After each cycle an error code of 5d is shown on the display. What does this error code mean?

The 5d code is actually an Sd code and it means suds have been detected in the washer. This can indicate to much soap or the wrong kind of soap was used in the washer. Be sure HE detergent is being used. If can also indicate the drain pump is restricted or the drain hose is kinked.

What does SD error code mean on Kenmore HE 2 plus front loading automatic washer

Hi

Error code SD/5d means LONG DRAIN. This error appears when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes and the water valves turn off. After 4 minutes the "Sd" error will be displayed, and then 4 minutes later the F21 error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display. Please Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. If the drain hose if fine then unplug the washer and check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects. To access the drain pump and filter remove the front kick panel and trace the drain hose to the bottom of the washer, drain pump would be located there. If you are not able to access it, then replace the back panel as well. Plug in washer or reconnect power. If the issue is still not resolved then you would need to replace the drain pump. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I have a 5d fault code on my HE 2plus kenmore washer.

  1. Remove the lower front panel and remove the cover for the drainage filter. Slide this tray out and clean it.
  2. Unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit.
  3. If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended to replace the drain pump.

My kenmore washer is stopping constantly and has error codes like 5d, rL, F21 and some other codes. We checked everything the manual says to and it all seems fine. What is the problem?

That 5d is a clue. Too much detergent, the wrong detergent, or detergent in wrong dispenser can cause the 5d which is suds overdose. The F-21 is from banging on the touchpad in frustration!
Keypad error! Take the base panel off and find the tech sheet behind it. The tech sheet will give error codes and what to try. I have an HE washer service manual and some repair photos HERE

Our washing machine will not drain, and keeps bringing up "LD" error code. It keeps beeping and the timer isn't going down.

  1. residential washer displays error codes. Though designed to indicate the nature of the error, to anyone without a copy of a washer manual handy, the codes might as well be Martian cryptography. Luckily, the Manage My Life website has partnered with Kenmore and made manuals for each make and model of Kenmore washer available online. The error codes are differentiated between top and front-loading machines.
  2. FH Error Code
  3. When a front-loading Kenmore residential washer displays the "FH" error code, the machine is experiencing a water-inlet problem. A water-inlet problem is the result of the washer receiving too little water to operate. The Kenmore owner's manual suggests five home remedies for this problem: Check that the water faucets connected to the washer are turned on; that the inlet screens in the washer's connection hose are not clogged; that the hose is not kinked; and that the hose is not frozen. If none of these problems are present, turn off the washer, unplug it, plug it back in, and restart the machine.
  4. FL Error Code
  5. The "FL" error code on a top-loading Kenmore residential washer indicates that the machine has over filled. When a residential Kenmore washer is overfull, it will beep every 10 seconds. The pump will cycle on and off every 30 seconds in an attempt to rectify the problem. To stop the pump or restart the machine, either disengage and then re-engage the power source to the washer, or push the overfill reset switch. If water continues to enter the machines after the "FL" error has appeared, shut off the inlet flow faucet or the machine will overflow.
  6. F02 Error Code
  7. The "F02" error code on a front-loading Kenmore residential washer indicates that the machine is experiencing a drainage problem. Home-remedy solutions for this error code, as suggested by the Kenmore manual, are similar to those for the "FH" error code: Insure that the drainage hose is not kinked, frozen, or clogged. If none of these problems are present, check that the hose is less than 96 inches, or 8 feet, above the floor. A hose more than eight feel from the floor will not drain properly

Kenmore HE2t washer - error code 5d

5d is a definitely a the code for a plugged discharge. We removed the lower access panel and discovered a virtual treasure: $12.50 in quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies, a pen, a pencil, collar stays, 10 bobby-pins, 3 barrettes, a elastic headband, a draw string, a box cutter, 3 washers, 3 broken zipper parts, a elastic waist band. Amazing it took all to trigger a 5d error code. Hope this helps!

Keep getting error code sd or 5d and sometimes a F error on my HE 2plus washer. Is there an inexpensive solution to the problem or should we be shopping for a new washer?

Hi

The Sd or 5d indicates that excessive suds are detected by the washer during the drain or spin phases of the cycle. The washer will stop and fill with 4 liters of water and then wait for 5 minutes to allow the suds to dissipate before continuing. If the suds cannot be reduced or eliminated so that the washer cycle can continue, it may stop and display the F21 (long drain) fault code. After the suds dissipate, you can normally drain the washer and spin out the clothes using a RINSE/DRAIN & SPIN cycle. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the appropriate amounts to prevent excessive suds in the washer. This should prevent the washer from going into this routine.

And if you still face the same error then probably there is something(coins, socks, dirt, debris, etc) stuck inside the drain filter of your washer. You'll need to check the drain filter. To access the drain filter. To check the drain pump follow these steps:
  1. Unplug the washer to completely disconnect electrical power.
  2. Remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below.
Also check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.
