I use my 580 with my canon 10d with a turbo sc quantum battery pack. I also use the green battery in the 580 with 3 other lithium batthries. Usually this combo works great. However, this sunday while I was shooting a wedding with this combo, the flash was not regenerating fast enough and was taking up to two minutes to be ready to flash again. I missed out on many good shot.s Have you heard of this happening and do you have any advice?
Are you using that stupid Gary's Dome Plastic Cover?

SAme exact problem
I'm having the same problem shooting night football.
I called Quantum and the tech I talked to suggested putting the flash directly on the camera and hooking up the Quantum. He said to put the flash on manual and full power (1/1). Activate the flash and then see how long it take for the red light to come back on on the flash. He said that if it takes more than 1 second, the problem is probably the flash. He said that if the orange light is flashing or solid on the Quantum, it is working properly.
He said that if you detach the Quantum from your flash and have brand new Energizer batteries in the flash, it should take approximately 3.5 to 4 seconds to recycle (from activating the flash to the red light appearing on the flash) if it is working properly.
I haven't gotten home from work yet to perform this test. If the recycle time is too slow, looks like there may be a problem with the flash, although I don't know what the problem is.
