What would cause the 3900 to run but the tail does not move?

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2012

Jessica - READ the owners manual before giving wrong advice.
    Rpm are 32-36.
if the unit rpms are ok, look at the water management system for debis by first removing the bottom covers 3 screws then the 3 screws holding the roundish module (WMS) with the tail attached. remove the WMS, remove the 4 scews holding the back cover inplace noting how it comes apart (spring,o ring and thrust jet).
Check that the jets (3 x venturi jets, thrust jet and tail) are clear.
If ANY debris are found in the unit, then you have a problem with the filter found either in the quick disconnect fitting or inline housing.

Make sure that the feed hose floats are properly attached and spaced. Make sure that the opening at the end of the sweep hose is not blocked. You might also need to adjust the power to the pool cleaners sweep hose. To adjust the motion, turn off the booster pump and turn the sweep jet clockwise to increase motion.

SOURCE: The wheels on my Polaris

There are a couple things that you should check with these pool cleaners if the wheels are functioning properly. Check the filter screen in the in-line filter assembly and clean if necessary.Make sure that you do not have any debris or obstructions that could be halting wheel function. Even though you seem to have plenty of water, check the RPM and make sure they are between 28 and 32.

Do the Polaris 3900 tires ever need to be replaced?

It would be incredible if the machine lasted that long to replace the tires but t is possible. If you use it frequently and have run it for ball park 5 to 10 years then I would look at replacing them. Simply take a look at a replacement tires treads. if your are 50 percent or more worn I would get new ones.

The wheels on my Polaris 3900 don't move. Plenty of water coming thru the thrust and the tail wags. When I move the wheels manually they all move together.

Just installed my p 3900 about a month ago and it is not working (moving). the wheels are not moving at all. Filters have been changed, skimmers cleared and water flowing freely and still my 3900 is just...

I would check to make sure that the pool cleaners RPM is at at least 30. If it is lower than 30, you are not getting enough pressure to power the cleaner. If your RPM is between 30 and 36, and the cleaner has never moved since you got it, I think that something is probably installed incorrectly. Check all of your connections for leaks or cracks. If necessary, go over the entire assembly instructions and check it step by step. I bet you will find something slightly wrong or slightly off that is causing the lack of pressure.
