All info from juliankov appears good.. but thought I'd add a bit of stuff I found on a web site..

Use a console cable with following minimum pinout (the flat gray one with the RJ45- D9 type converter currently shipping with new P33xx switches will suffice): DB9 Console Port
1 ----------- 6
2 ----------- 3
3 ----------- 2
4 ----------- 4
5 ----------- 5

Obviously the speed is set to 9600
maybe stop all sessions & try to re-establish a new one. The instruction manual warns u can only run one..

Lucent Cajun not talking to cisco catalyst

Not sure what Cat switches you have, but the cajun switch must use the same trunking encapsulation.  Older catalyst switches use ISL trunking which only work with Cisco switches.  Make the port between the lucent and cisco dot1q encapsulation on the cisco trunk port.  Also turn on debugging on the cisco and see what messages are generated.

Password Recovery

The login you are using should have placed you in super-user mode. Are you connected directly to the switch with a serial console cable?

This is from the Cajun P333R manual but it should be very similar if not identical.

Good Luck.

Save config

After changing all the necessary parameters using the CLI, use the write command to save your system configuration. If you receive any error messages, your configuration has not been saved. You must correct the errors and re-issue the write command. Notification of write errors is presented in a two column display: ? The left column contains the parameter values that you set in this session and need to be changed. ? The right column contains the parameter values currently saved in the Cajun P116. Wait 15 seconds for confirmation of the write process. Then exit Privileged level by typing exit at the prompt. For example, CajunP116-priv# exit. The cursor changes to CajunP116> to indicate that you are in Normal level. Verify that all the parameters were accurately saved by using the show all or show all list command. The Cajun P116 is now ready for cabling and operation. You may exit your CLI session.

How can I reset it back to original configration

Hey Eric, I do use same Avaya switch at my lab at office. To me what you have to do is quite simple, first of all you have to get from your network administrator the following info: - Free IP to assign to the switch - Subnet - Gateway (If you ping such IP from a machine of same subnet, there will not be an answer). Then log as superuser (#) and do this: 1. Type set interface inband Replacing , and with the VLAN, IP address and netmask provided by your network administrator and press Enter. (for VLAN you can list them and decide which one to use, but normally you should use 1) 2. Type reset and press Enter to reset the stack. 3. After the Reset, perform login again as superuser. 4. Type set ip route , replacing and with the destination and gateway IP addresses. (If you want all packets not from your subnet to be send to the gateway, then use 0.0.0.0 as destination, list routes set on device for more info) 5. Press Enter to save the destination and gateway IP addresses. That's all. Your switch will be rechable from your same subnet and from other networks if your gateway is working properly and there's no other element blocking you the access. Good Luck!
