U can't just do it on ur own setting like 480i to 1080p when ever u want. No,u only get what ever the tv stations modes they set and send out only.Ur tv have the 1080p mode capability mean ur tv can pickup that 1080p mode.Dosen't mean u can change 480i to 1080p by ur self anytime u want,if the tv station is broadcating tv signal to u only in 480i u get only 480i.

Yo don't. The TV's resolution can't be changed. Only the signal resolution from the source can be altered.

The TV is a fixed pixel device. The panel has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The incoming video signal is scaled to fit that display. If the signal is 480i then it is deinterlaced to make it 480p, and then scaled up to make it 1080p. The amount of detail in the picture doesn't change. It's still a 480i image. It's just blown up to fill a 1080 panel.

The TV reports the resolution of the incoming signal before it is scaled. If you have a BD player you can see the effect of changing the resolution setting from 480p, to 720p, to 1080i, to 1080p 60, to 1080p 24. The last three (the 1080 resolutions) shouldn't look too different with a Blu-ray apart from movement because the native picture is 1080p 24 and the TV is simply converting it back to 1080p 24 for display.

960i is a funny resolution. That would be achieved by line doubling a 480i signal. But it's not one of the VESA HDTV timings. TTBOMK there's no Blu-ray or HD source that generates a 960i image. So even if you could generate it then the TV wouldn't understand what to do with it.

My television only puts out a pic in 480. The 720 and 1080 are not working. Getting sound no picture

No input on a WS-55511 is capable of 720p . Inputs COMP1 and COMP2 ONLY accept 480i/480p . Input DTV accepts 480i/p and 1080i . When using Input DTV with a component connection(YPbPr) and you get a green or no picture then you will need to navigate the menus and setup input DTV for YPbPr instead of RGB.

My mitubishi medallion is 1080 but is playing in 420. how do i get it back to 1080?

I don't think you can change this setting it is playing in whatever you are sending to it ie 480I . If you send it a 1080 picture then it will play in 1080.

No picture when cables connected

Go into menu on cable remote and open up 480p,480i,720 and 1080 . I think on some of those 1080HD only works on one of the two component inputs. The other is only rated for 720. Usually it has this info on set at input. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
