When trying to turn the camera on, the lens will not extend fully. it extends partially, and then the camera turns itself off, leaving the lens in the partially extended position. you have to try and turn the camera on many different times just so that you can try and return the lens to the original retracted position with the shutter full closed. Most of the time, the shutter is half way closed due to the fact that the camera stays on for about 2-3 seconds, and regardless of the position of the lens or the shutter, it will turn itself off.

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

If the lens makes a partial movement when you attempt to power up, it is probably dirt/sand that has jammed up your lens in the extended position. First use a vacuum to remove dirt between the lens gap. Next, be very careful, but when you power up, as the lens tries to retract apply a little force to help the lens, listen for a click that indicates that the lens barrel guide pins may have reseated in their guide slots. If you hear this click, immediately stop and try the camera

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Camera stopped working, lense partially extended

Switch on - lens extends - screen comes up is the normal. Partial extension of lens and the rest does not follow. Why does the lens not complete its function? Probable cause dirt got into the slide mechanism is the simple answer. Very fine mechanism- would not try anything your self. Have you a service facility of watch repair shop near you. Or try the makers web site - they may offer a swap out facility for a modest fee.
