The computer screen went crazy with all sort of horizontal purple lines. It then shut down. Upon restarting it, I am able to hear it booting up and all but nothing shows up on the screen. It's black! What's going on?
I have the same problem. The screen suddenly have matrix effect, I don't know how to describe but it went like the screen effect in Matrix movie. Then I shut it down, after that I restarted, I heard the start up sound but the screen still blank. I tried to start up many times but still the same. Once I started it the screen appear but just show the blue screen for half an hour, so I shut it down. So, I gave up. After a day, I start it up again. Now it show everything but I can't move the mouse or trackpad cursor or use any keyboard commands. Now, I just need it to function properly just once, so I can back up my data and send it to Apple repair shop.I have the same problem. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.
Resetting PMU on PowerBook or iBook computers
In some troubleshooting situations, if resetting PRAM does not
resolve an issue, resetting the PMU may be the next appropriate step.
For information on when this is appropriate and for instructions on how
to reset the PMU in your PowerBook computer, see Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU).

You may have installed something in the startup items folder that your mac isn't liking.
When you turn the iBook on, press the shift key as soon as you hear the startup tone. hold it down until you see the gray apple screen. This will get you into safe mode, hopefully then you'll be able to fix whatever you did from there.
If you are still at a loss, get in touch.
If you stilll have the Mac OS installation CD available the when it is starting up press down C and it will start from the Mac OS X installation Set up then you can reinstall OS X and it should work.
