I dont have the orginal ground wire for my Technics SL-BD20D turntable someone told me i could use rca cables to ground it, i have a pre amp cause my main amp didnt have phono jacks on the back of it.

Hi, Yes your turntable needs to be grounded to get rid of hum. Make sure that your turntable, preamp and amp are all powered from the same point. Most preamps do not have a grounding connection on them and when they do it is normally on the same side that the rcas from your turntable connect too. What is the make and model of your preamp. I will check it out. To earth to a preamp without a grounding connection do this. Take the grounding cable from your TT and slip it in the side of one of the 2 rca connections as you plug them in. That will ground your TT to the amp. If it doesn't then swap the ground lead to the other rca. Cheers John. Styluscity.com.

Poor ground at the phono cartridge. Turn your receiver off and remove/reseat the cartridge and/or the tiny leads to it.

Yes you need a pre amp

It would also be the same if you connected it to a computer to record an LP to CD. Mine is a little different and has one already built in that I can switch in and out of line.

Try spend a little more if you can as many pre amps can introduce noise.

You may also want to check that the turntable is properly grounded to prevent noise too

Get an external pre-amp. They range in price from 25-100 and more, depending on the capabilities. All over Ebay, and electronics sites. That will fix your problem. Hope this helps

Did you ground the turntable? Most of them have a ground wire located somewhere that connects to a screw on your electrical outlet. You could be getting hum from your pre-amp if it is a low quality one. Try unhooking the pre-amp, if that is the problem you won't hear the hum. If the turntable ground is the problem you won't hear music with no pre-amp but you will still hear the hum.

You need to run that black wire to ground, perhaps a screw on your electrical outlet. You also need a pre-amp with your turntable, I use the mcm 40-630 you can find it many places for sale.
