Can you purchase ethernet card for gateway SX 2110

Hello Rharmon284.

Dallas PC Doctors helps with this sort of issue all the time. You have a Desktop PC which opens up. You have what is called 'expansion slots' that you can add a 'card' , just google wireless card for the type expansion slot you have. You can find details about your desktop at
http://us.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/models/sx-series

You can also use a much simpler way of getting your wireless working and that is to just buy an external wireless adapter, and plug it into a USB port. Several examples are here and they are VERY easy to sue and install.

I need a wireless adapter for SX2110G-UW308

Search for "SX2110G-UW308 specifications" and found this link:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SX2110G-UW308-FB-R

It shows there are 2 expansion slots and 6 USB 2.0 ports available on this desktop PC (2 on the front, 4 in the back), it also shows that the Operating System is Windows 8. This desktop does not have wireless, so you are correct, you have to add wireless to this system.

Option 1:

If you have never opened up a PC then I recommend a USB wireless adapter that has a plug and play compatible with Windows 8 feature. They are inexpensive and you plug it in to any USB port and it will automatically install. You don't even have to shut down the computer. Click here for a list of USB wireless adapters. Read the reviews and select one that has a mainly positive reviews: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010074%20600028008&IsNodeId=1&Description=wireless%20usb%20adapter&name=WPA2&Order=REVIEWS&Pagesize=20 Lots of choices. Choose one that supports WPA2 security, has a good range. Antennas will give you a better range, and stronger signal.

Option 2:

  • One (1) PCI Express x16 slot
  • One (1) PCI Express x1 slot
If you are comfortable opening up the case, then go ahead, before you buy a card, shut down, turn off the power, unplug the system, open the case and look for the PCI slots. There should be two of them. Make sure they are empty and available. See if there is an opening in the case next to the expansion slot for the wireless antennae to protrude out the back of the case. There are lots of PCI express wireless choices. Pick a card with WPA2 security, it should say plug and play with windows 8 as one of its features, pick one with good reviews and a good range: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010074%20600028008%20600014297&IsNodeId=1&Description=wireless%20pci%20express&name=PCI%20Express&Order=REVIEWS&Pagesize=20

Before you touch anything inside the case, double check that it is unplugged, touch the the case a few times to discharge any static, or wear a static discharge wrist strap. Plug in the PCI card firmly but gently, make sure it seats, make sure all the pins line up. Don't bend or break anything. Remove the metal or plastic slot cover on the case, close the case, plug it in, power on. It will also automatically install.

Scroll down to the photos towards the bottom.

Looking at the Front of the computer, the LEFT Side panel removes.
Remove the Philips head screw located towards the Top, on the Side Panel's edge, and the Bottom screw on the Side Panel's edge.

Pull back on the raised fingergrip, formed out of the back of the Side Panel.
The panel pulls back so far, then is tilted out, and removed.

-> FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

Relieve your body of Static BEFORE reaching inside your computer.

Computer on a table, computer Unplugged from power, computer case open;
TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.

You may also wish to remove all cables from the computer, and lay it on it's side for easier access to the motherboard.

Look at the right side of the motherboard, and the two long White PCI slots.
Above them is a long Blue PCI-Express x16 slot. This is used for a graphics card.

Above it is a small White slot. This is a PCI-Express x1 slot.

If a PCI slot is open you can use it for a Sound Card.
If not, and the white PCI-Express x1 slot is open, you can use it.

Examples of Sound Cards used in a PCI slot, and a PCI-Express x1 slot;

On the back of the computer case framework is a small 'door', that holds the expansion cards in place.
The Thumbscrew is loosened, and this allows the door to swing open.

Find the appropriate expansion slot cover, that matches up to the slot your wish to use, and remove it.
Note that the expansion slot covers, do Not line up inline with an expansion slot on the motherboard.

(Expansion Slot; i.e., PCI, or PCI-Express x16, or PCI-Express x1 )

The expansion slot on the motherboard, is usually one space over from the expansion slot cover on the back.

[Don't believe that is worded correctly, but you will see what I mean with the Side Panel off, and looking at the motherboard ]

Yes. It's a lot of fun(?) trying to keep the expansion slot covers in place, expansion cards in place, and trying to close that 'door' properly.

[Look close. The bracket for the expansion card, (In this case a Sound Card), fits in little depressions in the metal framework of the computer case; or the brackets half-moon hole, will fit over a small peg, in the computer case framework ]

Where can i buy a onchip usb2?

FIC FR33E motherboard?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FIC-FR33E-L-MOTHERBOARD-CPU-LOT-10-/170633274365

Reference: Photo

To the far left side of the motherboard, is actually the Bottom of the motherboard, when installed in your computer case.

The two White long expansion slots you see, are PCI expansion slots.
If one is available, (Open), you can use a PCI USB adapter card.
This is but one example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4143850&CatId=511

Seem cheap? Nope. Good quality also. (You can also check the reviews)

Need guidance in installing?
1) Follow Anti-Static Precautions

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside the computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open.

[Note* Always unplug the power to a computer AT the surge protector. NOT at the back of the computer. (Power Supply)
You can cause a power surge ]

2) TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again, upon your return.

3) Finding an open PCI slot look at the back of the computer. In the metal frame you will see slots going horizontally.
These are Expansion Slots.

You may have an add-on adapter card already installed, in one of the PCI slots.
The expansion slot cover for it is removed.

You should see expansion slot covers however, in the remaining expansion slots on the back of the computer metal framework.
Remove the one that corresponds with the PCI slot you wish to use.

Be aware that the PCI slot will not be directly in line, with the expansion slot.
When installing an add-on adapter card, you will see when the card is inserted in the PCI slot, the metal bracket on the add-on card, lines up with an adjacent expansion slot.

This will make more sense to you once you go to install the card.

[PCI USB adapter card is an add-on adapter card ]

Line the card up in the PCI slot. Note that there is a Locating Lug in the PCI slot, and a matching Locating Notch, on the PCI USB adapter card.

Also, at the same time line up the metal bracket of the PCI USB adapter card, with the metal framework of the computer case at the back.

Gently push the PCI USB adapter card down into the PCI slot.
Fasten the card's metal bracket to the computer's metal framework.

Post the computer manufacturer name, and model number, if you need guidance in opening the computer case. Post in a Comment.

How to add usb ports to Dell 530

Unplugging from the back could lead to a power surge ]

2) Computer on a table open the computer case,
Click on - Removing the Computer Cover - in the list.

Here you see an illustration of your motherboard. Oriented as it is in your computer case. (Just no hardware components, nor cables are attached)

At the bottom of the motherboard are 2 White long expansion slots.
In the illustration they are labeled by the numbers 21 and 22.
If one of these slots is open, and not being used, you can install a PCI USB adapter card.

This is one example of a PCI USB adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5606148&Sku=S262-2744

At the back of the computer, located towards the bottom, are the Expansion Slots.
Four horizontal slots.

If there isn't some sort of add-on adapter card already installed, all of the expansion slots will be covered with an Expansion Slot Cover.

If there is an add-on adapter card installed of course, one of the expansion slot covers will be removed.

Line up the PCI USB adapter card with the open PCI slot, you have chosen.
Now look at the expansion slots at the rear of the computer.
Notice what expansion slot that the PCI USB card's bracket, lines up with.

Go to the back of the computer, and view the small metal bracket on the bottom right. Loosen the Thumbscrew, and swing the bracket out. (Thumbscrew is supposed to just loosen, not come out)

Remove the expansion slot cover for your PCI slot choice.
Install the PCI USB adapter card.
Note that there is a Locating Lug in the PCI slot, and a matching Locating Notch, on the PCI USB adapter card.

Line them up, then push the PCI USB card straight down into the PCI slot.
Also watch the metal bracket on the back of the PCI USB card.
The 'tang' at the Bottom, slides down in-between the framework.

The top of the bracket has a half-moon notch, that lines up with a small 'dowel' on the computer case framework.
Make sure it is aligned, and the bracket is aligned.

What I am referring to will become readily apparent, as you go to install the PCI USB card.
If there are any other add-on adapter cards, they may try to fall out, when you go to install the new add-on card.

You just have to line them up, so their bracket notches are all on the 'dowels', and hold them in place. Then swing the 'door' closed. Tighten the thumbscrew.

If you have an Add-on card in the way, and by moving it to the other PCI slot, will allow you to install the PCI USB card, go ahead, and move it.
Doesn't matter. BIOS will find it, and assign an Interrupt Request.

There are two other expansion slots above the 2 white PCI slots.
The expansion slot right above the top PCI slot, is a PCI-Express x1 slot.
If this slot is open, OR the only one available, you can use a PCI-Express USB adapter card.

Example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5606149&CatId=511

The last expansion slot you have is above the PCI-Express x1 slot.
This is a PCI-Express x16 slot, and is ONLY used for a graphics card.

Can get wireless on my dell gx270

Most desktop computers do not have a wireless card installed.
You need to install a wireless card in the expansion slot and install the wireless driver, then configure this wireless card with your router's wireless settings so it can connect to the wireless router.

Hp a705w pavilion how to properly installed the video display adaptor

Since the HP a705w desktop computer comes with Integrated Graphics, I'm going to assume you are installing a graphics card.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00255589&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=435558

The above is HP Support > HP 705w desktop computer > Specifications.

(Graphics Card, Video Card, Graphics Adapter Card, and Video Adapter Card, all refer to the same thing)

The expansion slot used for a graphics card is a PCI slot.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00063244&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=435558

The above is HP Support > HP 705w desktop computer > Motherboard Specifications.

Scroll down the page to the motherboard illustration shown in Figure 1, and the motherboard photo shown in Figure 2.

In the illustration the PCI slots are at the bottom of the motherboard, and are named, PCI Slot 1, PCI Slot 2, and PCI Slot 3.

In the photo the PCI Slots are shown, and are White in color.

You can use any available (Open) PCI slot.
You can use a PCI graphics card. (PCI Video Adapter Card. Same thing)

Suggest you install the software (Drivers) from the CD disk that comes with the graphics card, First.

Turn your computer on, when Windows has fully loaded, install the disk into your optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)
Follow the simple instructions, install the software.

When the software is fully loaded restart your computer. Don't be alarmed as your computer won't use this software yet.

After Windows has fully loaded again, shut your computer down normally.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off)

Unplug your computer from power.
Open the computer case.
Follow Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.
(Processor, Ram Memory, Graphics Card, motherboard chipset, Harddrive, and so on)

With the computer unplugged from power, working on a table, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame of the oprn computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, upon your return be SURE to Touch the metal frame again.

There will be a metal slot cover, installed on the outside frame of your computer case. (Expansion Slot Cover)

This flat piece of metal will cover where you want the PCI graphics card to be.
It has to be removed.

There are several methods that this metal cover will be attached, to the metal frame of the computer case.

[ NOTE*
The metal expansion slot cover you have to remove, will Not be inline with the PCI slot.
It will be over one slot

Once you attempt to physically install the PCI graphics card, you'll see what I am referring to ]

1) To remove this metal cover look for an + in it. A flat tipped screwdriver is installed in the +, and the screwdriver is tipped down.
(The handle of the screwdriver is tipped down)

Looking at the back of the computer the expansion slot metal cover is horizontal.
The cover is twisted in an up, and down fashion to remove.
(Twisting from the bottom of the computer, towards the top, and then back down again)

There are small metal tabs that hold the metal cover in place. You are twisting the cover to break these metal tabs.

2) The metal cover is held in place by a single Philips head screw.
Remove the screw, remove the metal expansion slot cover.

3) I don't believe the a705w had a cover plate. A cover plate is hinged on one side. Usually a single screw is removed, and this allows the cover plate to swing to one side.
This action allows removal of all expansion cards installed.

Once the metal expansion slot cover is removed, line up the contact pins of the Video Adapter Card with the PCI slot.

Insert the video adapter card straight down in the PCI slot.
Install the screw that holds the video adapter card in place, to the metal frame of the computer case.

Close the computer case.
Plug your monitor into the video adapter card.
Plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.
