Hi - You may find it easier to get the tensioner strap into the location using a flat spoon handle. Take the carseat to your retailer for them to advise if you have difficulty.

Are you sure you're looking at the UAS/LATCH strap and not the top tether?
Your seats should have a long strap with a hook at each end that goes through the belt path (the UAS strap) and another at the top, for top tethering once you turn them forward facing.
The UAS strap may be hooked onto the sides of the seat or bundled together underneath...take another look at your manual to find out where they store it.
Alternately, install with the seat belt - neither LATCH/UAS or seat belt is "safer" than the other...the LATCH/UAS is just supposed to be more convenient.

you have to tuck the loop in through the back of the car seat from the bottom to the top and then tuck the length of the tether through the sewn loop in the tether strap. I found it helpful to have a firm, flat surface (like a butter knife or a ruler) to help guide the tether along the molded foam that is not removeable. Plan it out in advance so the hook is the right way up when you are done, to save yourself some grief.

You have to unloop the straps from the gold metal bar. This will allow the straps to be free so you can feed them thru the holes and re-feed them into the proper height hold. You will than noticed that there are loops at the very end of the straps which you can loop back onto the gold metal bar.

ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARSEAT ARE 2 METAL LATCHES ON EACH SIDE. REMOVE ONE BE PUTING THE STRAP THROUGH AND ADJUSTING IT TO YOUR CHILDS FIT.YOU COULD ALSO PUT IT THROUGH A SECONDARY HOLE IF YOUR CARSEAT HAS ONE TO PROPERLY HOLD YOUR CHILD SAFELY.LET ME KNOW IF I WAS ANY HELP...
