I have a Husqvarna 500 computerized sewing machine. I am not able to make some of the odd numbers work. For example the #9 decorative stitch or #7 stitch. I am not able to activate it with the touch of a button like the other numbered stitches. Is the circuit bad or maybe dust got into somewhere?

SOURCE: Brother vx790, my stitches are reversed ( top is on botom & bottom is on top )

It sounds like your tensions are out of adjustment. Your upper tension should be between 3-5 and make sure the tension in your bobbin case is not too tight as well. Pull the thread through the bobbin case and make sure it comes out with a small amount of resistance. If no resistance, tighten the tension just a bit, if too much resistance, loosen it just a small bit at a time.

SOURCE: Husqvarna Prisma 980 decorative stitch cassettes don't work

Hi,
On that machine, the cassettes aren't actually computer chips. Each cassette has a little spot of white on a certain little area you must find (top right I'm pretty sure). Look in the machine at that point. There is a sensor that looks for that white spot, and as it identifies it, it changes stitches according to that cassette. Either the sensor is blocked, gone bad, or you can put a fresh coat of white paint on with white out. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Shirring fabric?

When putting your shirring elastic on the bobbin, don't thread the elastic through the bobbin holder, adjust the stitch length longer, and loosen the tension, other wise if you want to put it through the bobbin holder you have to loosen the tension screw on the bobbin holder, and then you have to adjust it back for ordinary sewing,

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I have the Singer Touch Tronic 2001. I bought it used for $50. It has the manual and all the parts. However, the manual refers to lifting the top console to access the stitch width selector dial and to change the pattern selector discs. I cannot seem to lift this console up even the manual says that it is hinged for easy access to these parts. Can anyone describe how to lift the console up? Or send a picture or video of this process?

Most appreciated!

Husqvarna M 220 I cannot change the stitch selector knob. Does this machine need oiling?

(Sorry, unable to locate any information based on the information you provided.)

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized), then it most likely needs lubrication. Does it have dials and levers that are moved manually, or is there a screen to indicate your machine settings? If there are dials and levers that are manually manipulated, it is most likely mechanical and could very well need a thorough cleaning and oiling because the old oil has dried out and causing the moving parts to seize.

Which model is best for home

Depends what you plan to do with the machine. If you expect to do simple straight or zig-zag stitching, perhaps sewing garments or home decor items, a simple mechanical machine with a few decorative stitches may be sufficient.

However, if you decide you want to get into computerized embroidery, etc., then a computerized machine with more capabilities may be a better choice.

Of course, with that decision is the price. Just go with the best value for your money.

If you are a beginner, perhaps a simple machine to start with may be a good choice until you advance your sewing abilities to a point when you can consider a machine with more capabilities. If you decide you really don't like sewing, at least you haven't put out a great amount of money.

Why does my machine now only stitches backward, and no decorative stitches

You dont state what model of machine this is, however I have come across this problem mainly on Elna computerized machines and it has been exclusively due to failure of the driver chips on the processor board that control the stitch length stepper motor. You can confirm this by checking whether you can vary the stitch length as well as just the forward/reverse. Same applies to Bernina models, but I dont know about others. Either way, you need to have it checked by your tech.
