Replaced pickup roller, separation pad and transfer roller. Dark area on top and very light duplicate printing below on page. PC will not allow me to access the HP toolbox to clean machine.
Thanks
I ran the hp toolbox "cleaning" mode and it did not help the problem at all. I still have a dark smear concentrated in the middle of the page, and ghost images repeated lighter all the way down the page. I am having the same issue - lots of ghost images 1/2 way down the page from where the image is supposed to print and also lots of general smudge / dark haze over the top half of the page. Unfortunately, it can also indicate that a part has broken from paper pickup unit or the door closed sensor isn't working. At my home when our LaserJet 1320 reached ~10 years old, we got this message and decided to replace the printer. It wasn't worth trying to locate and repair the problem when cleaning the pickup roller and paper path didn't work.
Cleaning the pickup roller will only temporarily delay problem. The pickup roller and separation pad needs to be replaced to correct the multiple paper pickup problem. The roller and separation pad is easy to replace. These parts come in a kit caller RK-1320 the parts kit is available here: http://www.ccl-la.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=71
Most of the cases fuser assembly or supplies are causes of ghost image. If image is not properly transferring on media causes transfer roller or ETB. Do this small exercise: Give print command, wait till paper grabs, once paper entered in cartridge area, power it off, open top & front cover, remove paper and see the print quality.Observed any ghost image what you observed? No ghost image? then problem with fuser assembly..
1.Remove fuser assembly, check any toner particles deposited on surface of fuser transfer roller or heater roller.. if found clean carefully with good cotton cloth while fuser having certain temperature,pl avoid metal & sharp objects to clean.. 2. Clean paper path roller(You can observe the rollers to push the paper to reach the destination) I hope this exercise will resolves the issue..
In addition to the pickup roller, the separation pad in the tray should also be replaced. This pad keeps more than one sheet from feeding at a time. When we do maintenance on a printer we always replace both to stop this from happening. The part number you want is RM1-1298-000. It is used in quite a few different HP printers.
You can clean it using piece of paper (not printed). time for replacement - your image is very ghostly and you cant get better image after cleaning lasser/scanner assy :)
GENUINE HP COLOR LASERJET 2600 MAINTENANCE KIT - Kit Includes: 120V(220v) Fuser Unit, Tray 2 Paper Pickup Roller (D-Shaped Roller), Tray 2 Separation Pad Assembly - Includes The Spring Loaded Separation Pad In Holder Assembly - Genuine HP Part
most typical jams are caused by bad pickup roller or separation pad. When you pull out the paper tray, and look inside the printer above the tray area, there's a roller that is held on with a little clip in the center of the roller. Pinch that clip to take the roller out and clean with soap and water. do not use alcohol based cleaners, they dry the rubber up and shorten the life span drastically. The separation pad should be right at the front of the paper tray, clean that also. If your printer keeps jamming after that, you may have some more serious like a fuser going bad.
I assume you either have recieved the separation pad or the paperpick roller. Here are instructions on how to replace both.
Use the power switch to turn the product off and then unplug the power cord.
Figure 1: Unplugging the power cord
Open the print-cartridge door, and remove the print cartridge.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover the print cartridge or place it in a black plastic bag, if necessary. Also, do not touch the black-sponge transfer roller inside the product. Touching the transfer roller can damage the product.
Locate the pickup roller.

Gently release the small, white tabs on each side of the pickup roller by pushing them away from the roller, and then rotate the pickup roller toward the front.
CAUTION:
Use gentle pressure to release the small white tabs to avoid breaking them.
Figure 3: Releasing the tabs
Gently pull the pickup roller up and out.

Perform one of the two following options:
Cleaning the pickup roller:

Our printer is printing dark smudges down the right side of the printed page. We can't seem to find the HP Toolbox to run the cleaning utility.
