HP LaserJet 1012 Printer prints ghost images

Replaced pickup roller, separation pad and transfer roller. Dark area on top and very light duplicate printing below on page. PC will not allow me to access the HP toolbox to clean machine.
Thanks

I ran the hp toolbox "cleaning" mode and it did not help the problem at all.  I still have a dark smear concentrated in the middle of the page, and ghost images repeated lighter all the way down the page.

Our printer is printing dark smudges down the right side of the printed page. We can't seem to find the HP Toolbox to run the cleaning utility.

I am having the same issue - lots of ghost images 1/2 way down the page from where the image is supposed to print and also lots of general smudge / dark haze over the top half of the page. Could it be the cartridge and not the printer?

A new toner cartridge solved the problem entirely.

! in triangle symbol of HP1320 printer flashing. Only light. Cartridge door closed. Troubleshooting says all is well. Print job goes to queue, then disappears as done, but nothing prints.

On the HP LaserJet 1320, the attention light is a generic alarm. It can mean out of paper, paper jam, paper misfeed, cartridge missing, or cartridge door open. You can try cleaning the pickup roller or changing the separation pad. You can find these maintenance steps in the user manual starting on page 73 (page 83 of the PDF). HP has the manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00208215 . More guides are available on the product page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-laserjet-1320-printer-series/410622/model/410624/manuals . Amazon has the separation pad available here: https://www.amazon.com/RM1-1298-HP-Separation-Tray-P2015/dp/B009SPB1H4 . Links to replacement pickup rollers are on this page. There are probably other sources for the parts as well.

Unfortunately, it can also indicate that a part has broken from paper pickup unit or the door closed sensor isn't working. At my home when our LaserJet 1320 reached ~10 years old, we got this message and decided to replace the printer. It wasn't worth trying to locate and repair the problem when cleaning the pickup roller and paper path didn't work.

I hope this helps.

My hp laserjet 1320 takes in more than one paper while printing, which get stuck.

Hello,

Cleaning the pickup roller will only temporarily delay problem. The pickup roller and separation pad needs to be replaced to correct the multiple paper pickup problem. The roller and separation pad is easy to replace. These parts come in a kit caller RK-1320 the parts kit is available here:

Hp 5550 patchy print

Most of the cases fuser assembly or supplies are causes of ghost image. If image is not properly transferring on media causes transfer roller or ETB.
Do this small exercise: Give print command, wait till paper grabs, once paper entered in cartridge area, power it off, open top & front cover, remove paper and see the print quality.Observed any ghost image what you observed? No ghost image? then problem with fuser assembly..

1.Remove fuser assembly, check any toner particles deposited on surface of fuser transfer roller or heater roller.. if found clean carefully with good cotton cloth while fuser having certain temperature,pl avoid metal & sharp objects to clean..
2. Clean paper path roller(You can observe the rollers to push the paper to reach the destination)
I hope this exercise will resolves the issue..

We have a laserjet 2420dn which prints fine from Tray 1 but constantly jams when printing from Tray 2. It only prints OK from tray 2 when there is ONE sheet in the tray. I changed the pickup roller in...

In addition to the pickup roller, the separation pad in the tray should also be replaced. This pad keeps more than one sheet from feeding at a time. When we do maintenance on a printer we always replace both to stop this from happening. The part number you want is RM1-1298-000. It is used in quite a few different HP printers.

HP Laserjet 4100 jams after about 50 print jobs

most typical jams are caused by bad pickup roller or separation pad. When you pull out the paper tray, and look inside the printer above the tray area, there's a roller that is held on with a little clip in the center of the roller. Pinch that clip to take the roller out and clean with soap and water. do not use alcohol based cleaners, they dry the rubber up and shorten the life span drastically. The separation pad should be right at the front of the paper tray, clean that also. If your printer keeps jamming after that, you may have some more serious like a fuser going bad.

Got a new part. don't know how to install it

I assume you either have recieved the separation pad or the paperpick roller. Here are instructions on how to replace both.

  1. Use the power switch to turn the product off and then unplug the power cord. Figure 1: Unplugging the power cord c00062340.gif
  2. Open the print-cartridge door, and remove the print cartridge. CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover the print cartridge or place it in a black plastic bag, if necessary. Also, do not touch the black-sponge transfer roller inside the product. Touching the transfer roller can damage the product.
  3. Locate the pickup roller. Figure 2: Removing the print cartridge, and locating roller c00062341.gif
  4. Gently release the small, white tabs on each side of the pickup roller by pushing them away from the roller, and then rotate the pickup roller toward the front. CAUTION: Use gentle pressure to release the small white tabs to avoid breaking them. Figure 3: Releasing the tabs c00062342.gif
  5. Gently pull the pickup roller up and out. Figure 4: Removing pickup roller c00062343.gif
  6. Perform one of the two following options:
    • Cleaning the pickup roller:
      1. Dampen a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the roller.
      2. Using a dry lint free cloth, wipe the pickup roller to remove loosened dirt. Figure 5: Wiping the pickup roller c00062344.gif
    • Removing the new pickup roller from its packaging.
  7. Position the cleaned or replacement pickup roller in the slots on the pickup roller frame. NOTE: Circular and rectangular pegs on each side prevent incorrectly positioning the pickup roller. Figure 6: Positioning pickup roller c00062345.gif
  8. Rotate the top of the pickup roller into position until the white tabs on each side of the roller snap into place. NOTE: Touching the transfer roller can damage the product. Figure 7: Reinstalling the pickup roller c00062346.gif
  9. Reinstall the print cartridge and close the print-cartridge door.
  10. Plug the product in, and then use the power switch to turn on the product. Figure 8: Plugging the power cord in c00062347.gif
  11. Use the power switch to turn the product off and unplug the power cord. Figure 1: Turning off power and remove power cord c00062407.gif
  12. At the back of the product, unscrew the two screws that fasten the separation pad and frame to the product. Figure 2: Unscrewing the separation pad c00062408.gif
  13. Remove the separation pad and frame. Figure 3: Removing the separation pad c00062409.gif
  14. Perform one of the following two options:
    • To clean the separation pad: Dampen a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the separation pad.
    • To replace the separation pad: Remove the new separation pad from its packaging
  15. Insert either the cleaned or replacement separation pad and frame and fasten it to the product with the two screws. Figure 4: Fastening the separation pad c00062410.gif
