I would suspect cold solder joint at frequency Crystal or around L26 freq tx alignment point. Cold solder joints are basicly breaks in the solder or the 2 surfaces that were being solder were no equally heated when solder was applied. These tiny crack can expand with heat or develope corrosion that becomes an insulator. I suggest that you remelt the solder adding a rosin core silver solder in this area on trace side or have it done if you are not comfortable with soldering.

A good test is to remove speaker/component cover removed with radio upside down. Power up radio, antenna connected, mic gain down, key mic then lightly press down on the crystals there are 3 marked as X1 X2 and X4. Watch for devation on frequency counter.

It is unlikely that you have a bad crystal. I suspected voltage is dropped in this area it could be a capacitor. Since you mentioned Base i assume it is not mobile less likely it is cold solder joint.

Whatever the problem i suggest you go thru replacing capacitor it could make it much more stable.

Is there anyway to change the frquency of these uniden 2 way radios

Hi,

Simple answer is no.

These radios were made for the USA where GMRS/FRS is available.
They work on a frequency range of 462-464MHz which in Australia and New Zealand, it is illegal to operate such radios without the apropriate license.

They are UHF commercial band two-way radios, not CB radios.

Note: Be warned that if you operate these radios in ANZ, and you're caught doing so, you will be charged under the radiocommunications violation act, and will be heavily fined and/or imprisoned.

My best advice is to buy a proper 5 watt UHF CB radio/handheld for next to nothing on ebay, and be able to use them legally in ANZ without the need for a license.

Regards,
Peter

Frequency counter displays two digets high from hump on fine clarifier adjestment on usb.27.186 insted of 27.185. also in am mode shows dead on with clarifer hump until mic is keyed thin dropes from 27.185...

Turn that fine clarifier a 1/4 turn or so to the right. I own a Galaxy DX99V and sometimes if that clarifier is just right it will drop down a hundredth of a MHz just like that when the mic is keyed. Your radio is just fine. Just adjust that clarifier a tad. The Galaxy DX99V is one of the best radios out there. I love them. -73-

The freq counter stays lit at 10.625mnz the claifier knob or the channel selecter will not change the freq counter

This problem, really need to be on a bench to test.. FREE at any good cb shop, to tell you what is wrong.... But most times when a freq counter is not working. Either the crystal is bad, poorly soldered, or its not receiving an input signal. Best way to test is to have a second freq counter external inline using coax.. and check the output of the radio and see if it shows correct or wrong. If it is showing correct they you internal freq counter is messed up. and needs to be check for a bad crystal or solder joints. sometimes even the voltage regulators go bad.. If it is showing a wrong freq on external counter then check the radio's crystal and oscillator circuit. this too can be as simple as a cold solder joint. on the solder side check the small surface mount diode near the PLL, next to the PLL shielded covers. It is normally black these come loose often times too. If you need more help feel free to call or text for more help.

Rolling Frequency Counter

I'm giving this info from the Master Edition of C.B. Tune-up manual Volume 1 year -1995. The original price of this info was $39.95 But I have had people help me with radio info. so here it is---- on page 60 it says [ Model ] : Galaxy Saturn ( and export models using the same Freq. counter module ) The most common problem with the { Galaxy Saturn } is after it has been on for awhile the read-out becomes unstable. And sometimes it will quit all together. This problem has been traced to a Zener Diode inside the freq, counter module. The square silver box located right behind the speaker. The Zener Diode inside marked D-603. This is a 2.4 volt , 1/4 watt diode next to IC-609 the ( LM-7808 ) regulator. REMEDY: change D-603 to a ( 2.4 volt , 1/2 watt diode) This should restore normal operation. {{{{ 357 - MAVERICK }}}
