My remote control is almost impossible to turn on and off. I have to hold the button down very hard with my thumb for as long as a minute. The rest of the buttons work fine.

This explains how to do a hard rest on the IPOD, if you haven't tried it already
To perform an iPod Touch hard reset, start by turning the iPod Touch
on. Press and hold down the sleep/wake button until you see the Apple
logo on the screen. Next, you need to turn the iPod Touch completely
off. Press and hold down the sleep/wake button until you see the red
slider. Slide the slider to turn off the iPod Touch. This should fix any
potential problems you are having with your iPod Touch. If you
are unable to turn off iPod Touch, you can try doing a manual reset. To
do so, hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time.
Continue to hold them for at least 10-15 seconds. Wait for the Apple
logo to appear.
Hello If RCA tv has locked accedently and you haven't its original remote handset it is almost impossible to unlock it. Just try to get its original remote control from any of your friends or relatives who owns the same model of RCA set, borrow it from them for just unlock your set and try the following tricks. One amoung them will surely unlock your RCA.
Most RCA and GE TV sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The code reset procedure is different depending on the model. Try each method until you find one that works:
Hold down MENU on the remote and VOLUME DOWN on the TV it's self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the 0 on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN buttons on the TV its self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked
Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down GO BACK on the remote and MENU on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down EJECT on the front of the TV and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Depending on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET. Sinotec: If you have the original remote (RC-A07) for Sinotec tv, then press and hold down the Music button for about 10 seconds OK.
The best way to program with this remote is to follow these instructions.
1. Turn the device you wish to program on by hand
2. Press and hold the key for the device you are programming. (If it's a TV hold the TV button etc.)
3. While holding the button down, press and hold the power button down until the light turns off, and then back on. Once the light is back on release both keys.
4. Now, while pointing the remote at the device, hit the power button until the device turns off. Once the device turns off, you have found the right code.
5. Hit the stop button on the remote in order to save the code, and program the remote to that device.
This should work for most universal remotes these days. It might take you a long time to find the right code as well, the code list is very long so you just have to keep chugging through them. I've reprogrammed this type of remote many times and have hit the power button for over 5-10 minutes before the device turns off. Best of luck to you.

Have you tried the manual option? Turn on your DVD player. Press "TV" or maybe a different button for DVD players, then a red light on your remote blinks once. Then hold both the "up" volume and "up" channel button down until your red light is permanently on. Then whilst holding your remote control 1mm away from your DVD player signal light (usually red too), hold down the "power" button until your dvd player switches off. Then switch it on again and try other buttons. However, I've only tried this on an LG TV, but took me 2 days until I really put the remote in front of that signal light. Took about 1 minute or more while holding down the "power" button. Hope it works =)
I have the same problem. The suggestions about holding down buttons for 1-2 minutes without the batteries in do NOT work. Pressing the TV button does NOT work. Still no clue what does work.
1) Press the POWER button to turn your TV on. Make sure you are set to Cable/TV reception. If the "replace lamp. Reset Lamp timer" notice appears, press "EXIT" on your remote. 2) Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON on the TV set (not the remote, the actual TV set) 3) Continue to press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and press and hold the PIP (Picture in Picture) or SPLIT/PLAY button on your REMOTE control (your are pressing and holding BOTH of these buttons at the same time now). 4) After 5 or 10 seconds (be patient), the lamp serice menu will appear and say your lamp counter has been rest to '0' (zero). That's it, you are all done.
Now, I continue to have the power shut off after a few minutes of play. I think it is a problem with the cooling fan. Damn it all anyway.
This may help.
Hold down tv power enter the 2 digit code using number
buttons 0-9 then release tv power button
