Simply speaking, a file with the XVID file extension is a XVID codec file which is regarded an open-source video codec published under the GNU GPL license in a compressed form. XVID file format is compatible with all the operating system, but you have to prepare a professional XVID media player or the required XVID codec to play the XVID file successfully.

Here I will strongly recommend Leawo Blu-ray Player to you. As a 100% free and 6-in-1 media player software, Leawo Blu-ray Player contains all media playback solutions you need for your leisure entertainment, including Blu-ray, DVD, CD, HD (4K), ISO file with AVI, XVID and other popular formats supported.

You have to install the "codec" needed to open the XVID format. Download & Install the latest codec packages ie. "K-Lite Codec Pack or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack" on your PC(Windows OS) and you should be able to play most of the AV formats.

Hope it helps.

Sometimes when trying to view a video on a media player, you might be greeted with a prompt that states the appropriate codec is not installed. This occurance happens often. Ps3 wont paly blue-ray movies????????

Check the 24 Hz setting in the BD/Blu-ray setting area. Some televisions do not support this option. Turn it off. It will prevent blu-ray movies from playing.

Does not play divx/mpeg4 files on dvd disk!!

The player plays strictly DIVX files, but not variants like XVID (which today is more common since divx became not free).
Divx is actually the same than XVID. After spending days converting my files from xvid to divx, realized that changing only the FOURCC code of the files works.
Look for a program named videoinspector. It allows to edit the fourcc for a video file. for all xvid and variants change the fourcc of the files to DIVX. The change takes a second instead hours of conversion, and movies in xvid that used not to play on this device, now will be played without problems.
