And here's a method (CdGone.zip) that will do a procedure automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.
(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)
Unzip the file, then launch it.

My laptop doesnt have the cd drive. It doesnt read my cd or dvd..

If you have more than one computer and other computer has dvd drive or cd drive you may use it by networking this computer to that one! You may also by external cd/dvd drive for your computer as well which may be easier!

It doesnt read any dvd neither software nor video, but can read audio cds, vcds, and mp3s

Put a DVD disk into the drive.
Open "My Computer".
Right-mouse click on the icon for the CD/DVD drive.
Click "Explore".
If a window opens, then your hardware can read the DVD media.
If not, then you need to replace the CD/DVD drive.

Then, you need software, such as the _free_ 'VLC' software,
downloadable from the Internet, to play DVD-videos on your computer.

Door will not open

make sure the drive is not reading a disk, because if its spinning it can break when you do this process.

look for a hole in the front of the drive, get a paper clip and stick it in there all the way, the tray will now eject or if its a slot loading drive the cd will eject

Hi, My computer doesnt recognize the cd\dvd drive....

Hello there!
You won't probably be able to find drives because Sony, the makers of Optiarc, rely on Windows to supply the drivers.

You can right click the devices and remove them. If Windows asks, check the box to removed files as well.

Then reboot the computer. That may do it on it's own.

If not, run Windows update, and make sure to check the section about optional updates.

I had this problem for about 5 months my lg dvd rom dint read dvds . i installed ffirmware and tried to update it but there was erreor and now dvd drive doesnt even work. no green blinking light. when i...

This is the inherent risk in updating firmware to optical drives.

Buy a new drive, power down the PC, install it and reboot the PC. If it is and IDE drive, or a SATA for that matter, before you buy a new drive make sure to disconnect and reconnect both ends of the cable prior to replacing it, just to be sure it wasn't an accidentally dislodged cable causing the problem.

DVDRW will not read CDs

1)right clik on my computer
go to
properties
device manager
clik on cdrom
uninstall it then re-install it
after reinstall try using the drive

2)update windows ,use custom and see if it finds an updated driver,if it does or doesnt update windows anyhow.
after you restart the computer try using the rom drive.

if that doesnt work;

go buy a cd/dvd rom cleaning disk at your local electronics store and use it.

if all this doesnt work;
buy a new rom drive
