I can not make a copy with the printer. Also there is no way to check the ink levels. Should the printer or computer notify of low ink levels?

Normally yes, but you need to have the software for your model installed, check out the hp website for the latest drivers and software here :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=nl&lc=nl&dlc=nl&product=90809

choose your OS and download the drivers and software from the next page. After that it should tell you the ink levels. If not, and if your printer is wired to the network, you can surf to its webinterface by typing the ip adress in the browser adress bar. Normally ink levels are shown there also

Unable to copy

Hello,

Please check the ink level in the cartridges before you start to make a copy. You may have to replace the cartridges which are depleted or have low level ink.

If cartridges have ink in them and if the printer is not making a COPY ( black or color ), then have the printer power cord directly plugged in to wall outlet ( bypass the surge / power strip ) and retry making a COPY.

If issue still persists, then you may have to call HP Tech Support for further assistance as the printer would require a service.

HOW DO YOU CHECK INK= THANK YOU= DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHECK IF I NEED TO BUY MORE INK= GIVEN TO ME DON'T HAVE ANY DIRECTIONS-

Typically a printer will notify you if levels are low. The best way (otherwise), is to print a test page from the maintenance page.

The other day i opened the cartriges to see the number so i know which ones to get at the store and now i know ink is very low not sure how low but when i try to print it says allign cartriges and it dont...

Hello. Usually, the printer will just notify you that the ink levels of your cartridges are low and if they're out of ink already, it will advise you to replace the cartridges and won't print. In your case, the cartridges may be sending wrong information to the printer. Since the ink levels of your ink cartridges are low already, you might as well replace them. Hope this helps.
