Not once but twice when the camera was on with the lens extended. The first time nothing happened to affect operation but the second time I got the lens error and the camera shut off with the lens partially extended. Through a series of start/shut off's and hearing clicking noises when the lens fully retracted/extended the camera seems to be working fine. It no longer makes the clicking noise and the lens functions properly. Here's my question...by being dropped is there some internal component inside the camera all out of wack now that affect the quality of the camera's operation and of the pictures it takes? Do I need to send it in for general service/alignment of some kind? Thanks a bunch.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
Camera most likely has a short inside, it happens from loose screws on these cameras. You'll need to get it fixed and it's good to do the correction to the screws inside once repaired. For $89, they do the repair, the service on the camera and the internal no power correction at the same time, they even cover the cost of the shipping back. The neat thing with them is they don't just do the repair, they service the camera up as well, plus shipping going back is included in their service package too which is nice. I have fixed my g9 twice with the lens problem. 1st time I dropped the camera on asphalt lens closed. Turned on, lens stuck and not forcusing or retracting. Solution was to press lens against a door frame and push as I turned off the camera...it worked. The next time,the lens was extended and would not retract I had to place the camera on its back on a book while I used a small block of wood and a small hammer. It worked camera is working fine. After both cases, it took about 5 shots to calibrate the auto focus.
Yes it is the lens is exspencive but it canbe replaced. cost on the lens is about 150.00 for parts and labor. could be more or less at other digital camera repair shops.

MY G9 WAS DROPPED ACCIDENTLY BY MY SON, AND NOW LENSE ERROR. AM REALLY WORRIED AS MY MOTHER WOULD SCOLD ME AS I SPEND 376 POUNDS ON THAT.
