All 6-string guitars are tuned the same. From the lowest string to the highest (lowest sounding to highest sounding), the tuning goes as follows: E-A-D-G-B-E. Getting a tuner would be a good idea and are fairly cheap (usually between $15-$25.)

I have a peavy classic 100 2x12 1975 has a high pitch squeal coming out of amp when powered on

If this happens only when the guitar is plugged in, most likely there are two possibilities. The first, you have some issues with the electronics in the guitar OR are using an acoustic guitar witch has an extremely sensitive pickup that provides nothing but feedback. If this is happening with the guitar unplugged, there is a mountain of possibilities.

Don't know how to turn on tuner

put a battery in your guitar. It goes in the space at the bottom, usually where you connect your cable to your amp.
Then hold the guitar as you usually would.
Look for a little board with buttons on the side of the guitar to turn on the tuner: )

My peavy amp will not turn on

1- check the outlet for power by plugging in a lamp or something
2- check the amps fuse. Most power amps have user replaceable glass fuses.

My s5470 does not sustain well at all.also, the bridge pickup sounds ok but lacks ''attack'' in upper register.great guitar otherwise.i use a peavy 5150 60watt amp.

I personally use Seymour Duncan Humbucker pickups, and have never been disappointed. You might want to take your guitar up to a music shop and try it on different amps to see if your amp is your problem, or if it is your guitar's pickups or wiring. You could also try adjusting the height of the pickups until the sound you are looking for is achieved. I have also had guitar cables make a big difference in the sound. Make sure you have a good set of cables, and you may want to adjust the EQ settings of your amp to make up what the guitar lacks.

Older peavy 4 string bass with batteries need wiring shematics

I think posting the wiring schematics is not legal. If it just does not work anymore you could try and look if the battery clip is oxidized and try to clean it.
