Intercom does not work - Uniden D16602 Twin Cordless Phone

There needs to be an additional instruction. I am having the same problem. From standby mode, I press Intercom, the screen says "Please wait" for 2-3 seconds, then I choose a handset. Nothing happens. The user guide doesn't have any additional instructions after this point. I don't hear any paging or anything other than silence on any handset.

Lets make sure you are following these standards and if it still does not work, let get to the troubleshooting portion of this assistance.

Handset to Handset Intercom
??Whenever the phone is in standby, you can make an intercom call between
handsets without using the phone line.
??You can make an intercom call from any handset, but only two handsets
can be in an intercom call at any time.
??If an outside call comes in during an intercom page, the phone cancels the
page so you can answer the incoming call.
??If an outside call comes in during an intercom call, press Talk/flash to
hang up the intercom call and answer the outside call.

To make an intercom page
Press Intercom/clear. Select the handset you want to talk
with, or All to page all handsets at the same time.

To cancel a page
Press End

To answer a page
Press Intercom/clear or Talk/flash.

To end an intercom call
Press End. Both handsets return to standby.
