I have an Olympus FE-330 camera. When I try to transfer using the Olympus Master 2 (recently installed) it says 'software unable to locate an Olympus Digital Camera connected to a USB port' I bought a new USB lead recently ... what do you think the problem is? Thanks

You did not mention which OS you are using... However, there is an update to
Camedia Master 4.2 which you could download, install and test.

Alternatively you could install and check the free and newer Olympus Viewer software...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

You should be able to access this camera's memory without installing any software on Windows 7. When connected via a USB cable, the camera's memory will appear as a disk drive in "My Computer", and you will be able to copy files from there. This may be less convenient than the way you are used to working, but you will be able to get your pictures.

Another way that people get pictures off any camera that uses memory cards is take the card out of the camera and put it into a card reader attached to the computer. Some people prefer this method over using a cable. You would need a reader that can read xD cards.

Olympus does not currently have any software updates available for this camera. The Olympus Master 2 software pages claim compatibility with Windows Vista, but not Windows 7, and there does not seem to be any update available.

By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.

The software that originally came with the camera is not Vista compatible. Go to www.olympusamerica.com and click the link for software downloads and then click the link for the free download of Olympus Master 2. This is the software that is now compatibel to Windows Vista.
