On my DCR PC100 Sony Digital Handicam the tape compartment door seems to be stuck open, and won't close? I was wondering if it might be related to another problem I've been having with the "record" button not working correctly - hence whenever I'v reorded something recently, I've had to hold down the record (red) button constantly.

SOURCE: Camera Case will not close

I solved my Sony Camera problem by throwing the camera in the trash and vowing never to purchase a Sony Camera again. When I saw many other people posting the same problem on the internet, I came to the conclusion this is a major problem with Sony Cameras.

SOURCE: Tape is stuck in my Sony handycam DCR-PC101

I have managed to eject my tape by powering 4.5 V the little motor which drives the eject mechanism.
Problem is that you have to dismantle half the camera to do this (be very careful with the flexy wires they are fragile) and I wouldnt' do it without the service manual.

SOURCE: Sony DCR-PC100 does not eject (well not really!)

Don't think this is a complete solution, but it might help. Try checking out the buttons on the camera. I've got one of those same cameras but my problem is the ribbon cable in the cassette carrier broke and I'm on the hunt for a new one, and a service manual. By the way, how about emailing a copy of the service manual to me at [email protected]. Thanks. I might be able to help further with a copy of that.

Try these steps:

1. Open the tape cover fully until it clicks open.
2. Turn the camcorder on to "VCR Mode."
3. With the cover still open and the camera in "VCR mode," take out the battery.
4. Put the battery back in--out should pop your tape.

Sony DCR-TRV480 Tape Compartment not wanting to close

This is what worked for me. I recharge the battery (with the tray still open), then I removed the battery. Replaced the battery and tried again. It worked this time. Apparently, it is a problem relating to the battery being fully charged. Good luck.

Opening the tape compartment

I have the same issue. The Handycam can sit on a table without anyone touching it and it acts like it is haunted. The tape sounds like it moves on its own and sometimes it won't let me playback or record. I repair shop I called told me it sounds like a $7 switch is broken, but it will cost $150 in labor to repair the switch.
