A temporary solution is to use the space on the on screen keyboard, go to start -> all programs -> accessories -> ease of access onscreen keyboard
as to your actual key try to press firmly across the space bar is it will space periodically that means the metal bracket on the back is stuck or broken, and either the key needs to be replaced or the entire keyboard good news is I can help you locate and help you install a new keyboard for fairly cheap just keep me posted
