This is a known issue with this model.. The power supply is not large enough to handle the extra current that is needed when the unit broadcasts on wifi.
If the Internet light is off then there is a problem with the phone line to the ADSL modem or the modem is faulty or there is a problem at the telephome exchange.
Disconnect the phone cable at the ADSL modem and connect a phone handset to this cable - check for a dial tone and that you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone, use a different or new phone cable.
If the phone line is OK then : -
Ring your ISP to get them to test your connection to your ADSL
modem.
Hi there!. unplug the power plug of your 2wire box from the surge protector for 1minute and after 1 min, plug in directly to the wall outlet, not to the surge protector. try to unplug and replug as well the connection on the back of your 2wirebox and check the cable connection from the isp cable to the modem,, the last option that your going to do is to reset the modem of your modem/router but make sure that you know the settings of your modem and wireless settings if u have.. or contact your isp provide for further details..there is a situation that there is a problem from your dsl company connection, most dsl use telephone lines..
By default, a 2wire modem's wireless feature is already turned on. However the wireless light of that will only be on if a device is connected or trying to connect to it.
Can any computer connect to the internet? You said you connected the computer with the cable to the 2wire using an ethernet cord, did it go to the internet?
Do you have a modem connected with the 2wire? (not a computer modem)
Do you have the DSL package or Cable package from Time Warner?
There could be a lot of possibilities why you lost your connections at the same time. Could be windows update or changes had been made in your 2wire 2701 HG.Its impossible to say that your wireless adapters turned bad all at the same time.As what you observed , wireless light is off meaning your 2wire doesnt detect any wireless connection. You can try reconnecting them 1 at a time by going to your wireless connection tool or network connections.
If that didnt help, you can use your PC w/c is connected using the USB connection. Using this step, you 'l have a chance to edit and view your wireless network. For you to access your 2wire you must know what your 2wire address {default gateway}. Using your hardwired pc go to start > run > type in cmd then hit enter > on the Dos command screen type in ipconfig and hit enter> youl see your default gateway . It would look like this 192.168.1.254 for example cos sometimes it would vary depending what ISP you have, Open your fav browser and on your address bar type in your default gateway. That would lead you to your 2wire page, there youl have a chnace to view you home network. Check if your wireless encryption and you network name if everything is still the same. {Best thing is to change your wireless name or SSID. Then try to reconnect on your wireless connection for each computer and make sure you have your wireless encryption.
Hope that helps. Pls let me know asap if you need clarifications.
If you mean the encription key, which technically is not a password, you may get it acessing to the router page with Internet Explorer. You will need your router's IP and a wired connection.
Its almost impossible to connect a 2wire DSL router with a Cable modem. They dont go hand in hand.
Although you can connect the outgoing ethernet wire from the modem in the last ethernet plug on the back of the router and then have the ethernet connections coming from the router. But not wireless. and if you find a way, contact me at [email protected]
What type of internet access do you have (DSL or cable)?
Are you connecting the computer with a cable or via wireless?
If you have verified that the cable connections are correct then I would try to power cycle next.
1. Unplug the modem, router and turn off the computer.
2. Plug the modem in and wait 5 minutes.
3. Plug the router back in.
4. Turn the computer back on.
Let me know the details for the above questions if we need to go further.
