Water pumps, can not work for a couple reasons, as long as you hear the motor still attempting to work. One is and most common, is vapor lock as you said, you attempted to fix that issue, as long as you feel comfortable there is no air trapped, then other common problem that fails is the diaphragm is stuck or warn out, that is the part that allows water to pump through, with out air getting in. Try turning pump upside down, after turning off of course, shake lightly, and plug back in a couple times short, meaning just plug in for a sec, then un plug, do this a couple times, sometime if stuck diaphragm, this might un stick it. let me know, i am sure it is one of those two issues. Ok then check where pump is plugged in to make sure breaker has not tripped. Next I would guess there is a reset button on pump. Look to see if this is so. I wouldent think pump is burnt out instantly.
Is there a reset button on these? My pump is on but not working. Not a mechanic. changed filter then it stopped working after working a little. Just a quiet hum now and it turns itself off. Said the words that would make both parents' ears alert: "I could probably fix it if I took it apart,: and I'm avoiding anything like that.
