On the Hofner Shorty, you will need to manually remove the bridge with a screw drive or similar tool. There are large screws on either side of the bride that when removed, the bridge will come off entirely. At this point, you can unwind the strings from the tuners on the head of the guitar, which will completely slacken the strings. Push the strings out the back side of the bridge to remove the old string, and insert the new strings via the same hole in the corresponding order they were removed. Make sure all new strings are looped through the bridge, then set the bridge in place. At this time, with all the strings hooked in and the bridge set in place, you can now attach the strings to the tuners.
First thought is to take it back to the tech that re-fretted the guitar- but do it tactfully. From experience, if you go into the conversation already ticked-off, his first response will be to get upset right back, and insist that "it sounded like that when I got it".
Be a little tactful, and he'll probably take care of it.
the only other solution would be an electrical short in the wires running from the tuning box to the input cable hole. take the tunner all the way out and make sure there are no loose wires. Make sure nothing is preventing the wires from making good contact.
The little latch is above the word "Fishman" right in the center top of the tuner. With a fingernail, pull the latch toward the center of the tuner and the whole thing pivots out exposing the batteries.
Your Fender tuner is crystal controlled and if you set it for A440 Hz, it will be far more accurate than any computer program can generate. Most of these tuners have the ability to be set at different reference pitches. If your guitar intonation doesn't match at the 12th fret, then you have a guitar setup problem, not the tuner. The intonationation is set at the bridge if you have a bridge with individual adjustments.
You should take it to a Luthier to get an estimate for repairing it before the damage becomes unrepairable. Also verify you are using the CORRECT tension strings.
Take it to a Luthier for a repair estimate. They can often repair cracks. They probably would have to open the guitar to do the repair. They MIGHT also replace the cracked surface.
